Could anyone help lead me in the right direction on any steps I need to take to transfer my guns from here to LV?

Hawaii has no process for "unregistering" firearms you have registered here.

What you need to do is read up on what Nevada state, Clark County and Las Vegas City laws are, if LV is your final destination.

3.  If a board of county commissioners in a county whose population is 700,000 or more has required by ordinance or regulation adopted before June 13, 1989,
the registration of a firearm capable of being concealed, the board of county commissioners shall amend such an ordinance or regulation to require:

    a.  A period of at least 60 days of residency in the county before registration of such a firearm is required.
    b.  A period of at least 72 hours for the registration of a pistol by a resident of the county upon transfer of title to the pistol to the resident by purchase, gift or any other transfer.

If you have more than 5 that can't be transported in a gun case:

1) If you have a physical address, mail your long guns to yourself
2) ship them in a shipping container

You can ship pistols to yourself too. Difference is the Postal Service prohibits mailing pistols (only long guns allowed).  You have to ship your pistols another way, FedEx, UPS, etc.  Or just take them on the plane with you check-in luggage.

What should I do with my ammo? I don't have much 9mm, 45auto or 223/556 but I do have quite a bit of .22lr. I'm wondering if it's better to sell it, keep and store it with family or some how ship it to me.

Best to sell, give it away, or use it up.  You can put it in your check in luggage which is usually limited to 11 pounds per person on most airlines(call to check). 

it would probably be cheaper to mail the long guns to myself vs buying a pelican case(one time use) 150-200 and possibly paying an oversize fee of 100? if bringing just the pistol with me via plane it still counts as a checkin item correct?

One pistol, a few mags, and accessories won't be too bulky.  I use a small pelican case locked with the gun and mags. After I sign the declaration tag, the whole case goes inside a checked bag. 

Can't answer the cost question for the long guns.  I know you have more than one, but would help to know total number and make/model. 

I fit an AR-15, Glock 26, S&W 64 .38 Special w/4" barrel, and Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum w/3" barrel in a pelican 1720 including an Aimpoint PRO red dot and there was room left for a few mags if we wanted.

This is how i had moved them to and from the mainland. Disassemble the firearms, separating the receiver from the other  parts , .
Send all the parts via the USPS. or moving company.
 travel via commercial airline with all the receivers in the locked case. it save a lot if space,

Some if not all moving company forbids transportation of firearms. but since no receivers are transported, it's totally within their policy

brilliant! Small  hard case for my shotgun receiver, pistol and ar lower. Then ship the rest. Thanks for the info. No need for a large pelican after all.

GL in LV you all,  I kinda' jealous but here is home. 

*update* I bought a small pelican case and stripped my guns down. Only the parts that have the serial number on them go in the pelican to be checked in for the plane ride, the rest will be sent to myself via fedex.


Does anyone know if I can just go to one of the small fedex stores to ship them or do I need to go to the main warehouse on lagoon drive? and since it's pretty much just buttstocks, barrels and upper receivers being sent; will I need to declare that at fedex?
