Well if we really are going to do this, we need to pick a specific thing or area that should be fixed.  (Start small)  Let's see some ideas out there!

Does anyone know any people in the construction industry? Maybe that own their own businesses? Are managers of one etc.

I do.  I am one........ergo my comments about liability.  When you hear from a coworker how he got sued after someone did something they weren't supposed to (and in fact were specifically told not to do it) and had to carry a box of his legal files around for 3 years (and I'm talking on the job, at meetings, to dinners out and on vacations), you look at things differently.

This being the path of least resistance, and what I gather the state desires anyway.

Now, that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the fact that we're talking about a shooting range.  This is the same state that decided to shut down critical offices for one day a month.  We are the very model definition of "penny wise, pound foolish."  Hell, they'd shut down the golf courses if they thought doing so would save them money.

This is why I think we need to do something, because they may not -- and then close our shooting range.

Heard from a regular patron today that he saw contracters looking over the roof area the other day. Maybe something is in the works. However, knowing the city is involved it maybe years before real repairs get started.

Fingers crossed...

I spoke with one of my friends who works for a large contractor. He suggested we get the size of the roof panels and the number and size of screws we need. His company can get a good discount from the materials providers. I write him a check and we have our roof panels. Then he suggested that since we don't want any liability that we go over and fix it on Monday, Tuesday or a furlow Friday. He said, who's gonna stop us and who's gonna know?

I would suggest we come up with a plan first, though. Such as this as a suggestion:

1. Research who in the City/County is responsible for getting the roof fixed and get in touch with them. I am sure the range guys' boss has a contact.
2. Someone volunteers to stay in touch with the City/County and find out if they intend to fix it. If so, when.
3. We decide if they are not going to fix it then we will.
4. We decide if the time frame for them fixing it is not acceptable (ie 6 months, 1 year, etc.) then we fix it.
5. We decide if the time frame for them fixing it is acceptable then we just wait patiently.
6. If #3 or #4 we gather up our tools and materials and then BBQ afterwards.
7. If #5 and they fix it within an acceptable time then we BBQ.
8. Either way there is not much better than guns and BBQ.

Any other ideas?

I vote for any option that includes BBQ.
