Do NOT become a member of the HRA
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:03:57 PM »
Today I went shooting on the rifle side of the range.

After a few hours of that, I went over to the action bays to introduce myself to Tom G who said he'd be shooting over there.

As I got there, I observed them setting up targets for some type of shooting they'd be doing.

A couple of minutes later, a very old Asian woman walked up to me and said " can I help you?"

I told her, " No, I'm just looking."

She then said, "well this is a members only event, so if you're not a HRA member, you're not welcome here."

I said "wow" and walked away from where she was standing and to another spot, further away from where they were setting up. I was interested in seeing what they were going to do in their shoot.

Another older Caucasian man walked up to me and said "You were asked to leave so you can't be here. This is a private members only event"

I said,"I'm just watching, I'm interested in what goes on here because I'm interested in becoming a member."

He then said, "well unless you're a member you can't be here."

I then left.

In 4 decades of shooting competitions with various organizations in five different states, I have never been treated so badly.

I will NOT become a member of the uppity organization known as the HRA and I will let everyone I come into contact with to steer clear of this horrible organization.

There is no "Aloha" there. So sad.

So again, I ask you, do not become a member of the HRA unless you like being mistreated.

This is honestly the first time I've heard of a group of shooters not welcoming someone who wants to watch and potentially join.

So much for promoting new membership. Sounds like a bunch of pompous control freaks. I'd rather not be associated with assholes like that. Everyone protecting their little ricebowl...

 Thanks for the heads up.
Relax, I've banned myself..

HDF is where it's at, anyway. I'm wearing my officially-merchandised HDF shirt right now. If you haven't bought one of these top-quality garments yet, I highly recommend contacting Chris.

They claim to be the "Hawaii affiliate" of the NRA.

I have contacted the NRA about this. It is a travesty that an organization that claims to be associated with the NRA is mistreating shooters and prospective members.

Wow - I am really disappointed.  I was going to re-up my membership with the HRA, but after reading about this, decided not to...

Geez! I've ~never~ heard of such behavior from a group of shooters. And certainly not at a public range.  :wtf:

Bad form.

If someone ask me at the range what I am doing I show them.  Let them say thier 2 cents and then continue shooting.

Even at the Honolulu Gun Club we always welcomed stray dogs.  even let them try out the range. most of them came back. a lot of them.

I became an HRA member by default when I took the LIFE class and am disappointed to hear about this.

Today was the LIFE / HRA Christmas Bowling Pin Shoot event which I was hoping to check out but wasn't able to make it.  There's another event next week Sunday which I will also unfortunately miss.

I have yet to attend an HRA Fun Shoot but will make sure to mention this if / when I meet the members there as a new member.  Hopefully HRA can address this as it makes no sense to alienate people in this community.
I think, therefore I am armed.

The Wife and I were there.

Don't know what time or WHO spoke to you.

It was a Thank You BBQ for the Volunteers who worked the SSF event.

It should and could have been handled better.

I will forward this to the organizers.

BTW:  Disagreement in the ranks is Exactly what Anti 2A groups seek.

Group A Not happy with Group B who is Not happy with Croup C.

So busy infighting that no one notices that Group D got Axed because of all the bickering.

My reason for not joining is because of the Oahu director.

Daniel ran me away as well, I was a paid member for 3 years before I threw in the towel and stuck with the SRGC until I left island.  I think this forum would be a good place to start forming a new pro-firearms group in Hawaii, push these older, stagnant groups out of the spotlight.  A lot of new faces and younger leaders running around that Ive seen over the past 10 years or so.

It would have been nice to meet you but the rudeness of the people in that organization have ensured that I will NEVER attend anything remotely associated with that organization.

There is one already. HDF.  We have had three shoots and everyone of them was a great time.

if I'm ever in Honolulu when HDF is holding something, I'll defiantly check it out. Before I joined them I emailed Chris about some things to do with the civil suite that's going on and he was more then happy to point me in the right direction and never gave me any "huhu" and now I'm a new member of HDF. But I rarely make it out to Honolulu.
