If there were a gun confiscation, it won't be cops going door to door grabbing guns. They'll make it grandfathered so those that have them already can keep them, however they can't be sold or transferred. They'll start off small with assault rifles, then semiauto handguns and rifles, then other stuff. That'll placate everyone so there will be less opposition to it while meeting the end goal of removing all guns.
Police would be all for that. Police do a good job at controlling crime, however they don't respect peoples rights because they want to...they do it because they have to.

Police do not control crime. They collect revenue when you commit a civil infraction, eg a speeding ticket.
They write reports after someone is raped, dead, or robbed, and rarely, but sometimes find the responsible
party to be arrested and tried, but you are still raped or dead, or robbed. They enforce questionable laws
such as drugs, prostitution, gambling because the government isn't getting its "cut". Revenue thing again
Police don't prevent crime, they document it.
As far as your rights, you and only you can defend those. A Cops job is to ask, tell, and then force you
to do what they decide you need to do. They get a vacation after they shoot you and chances are
they will get off Scott free.
Avoid police at all cost. Never talk to them without a lawyer present.
