Visiting from Australia: Range to shoot at
« on: November 27, 2016, 01:11:18 PM »
Hi,
I'm an experienced licensed target shooter/hunter from Australia visiting O'ahu, Maui and The Big Island in Dec/Jan. Because gun laws are so tight here (esp no AR/AKs or anything black and scary looking) I'd like to do some rifle/pistol shooting while I'm in Hawaii but would rather hire/borrow something and buy my own ammo at a proper range - not do the whole exobitant "touristy range" thing.
Is there a club there that would permit this kind of thing?
Also want to buy some mags and gear (maybe even optics) seeing stuff is so expensive in Australia. I'll check out the classifieds here - but is there anywhere else worth looking?
Thanks - can't wait to get there!

Be careful what you export from the US. Although those item are not restricted in the USA. Many item are control by the State Dept for export.

On Oahu, Waikiki has some indoor ranges that allow renting and shooting of various firearms, however, it will be a touristy type of thing, as they tether the weapon to the walls, and probably quite expensive.

We have two, that I know of, private indoor ranges. Honolulu firearms and range and XRING security.

Honolulu firearms is, I believe, a 15 Yard range, and XRING 25 yards.

Both offer firearms rental and require ammo and targets to be purchased there.  As for out of state/country, I am not sure of the rules or requirements, so probably best to call them up and inquire.

Depending on dates, I'd be happy to take you to our public range. My selection of arms is less impressive than Suka's, but I do have a thing for old military rifles!

If you're lucky and it times out, you can come out to a HRA fun shoot. Membership is required, so you'll have to join HRA, but it will be a fun, full day with dozens of guns to choose from!

Just missed out here on Big Island.  Our only range just recently closed their doors.  No place to casually shoot on this island.

Check out Honolulu Firearms if you're in town, if not X-Ring Security.  They both have good selection of firearms (handguns, rifles, shotguns).
