To the point of the OP:  If Hawaii were invaded, everyone on this forum would spend the duration of the occupation in a prison camp.  One of the very first places the invading army would be attempting to secure would be the various police stations, which would give them access to the various counties' helpfully alphabetized, categorized, and diligently filed firearms registration cards.  (Does anybody really think that the cops at the firearms division would have the presence of mind to burn their files?  I sure don't.)  You get three guesses where our hypothetical invader would go next, and the first two don't count.  Reason #4,839 why gun registration is a terrible idea.

No, no. The HPD will protect us. Don't worry. It's their job, right?

Waikiki? Uh... on the rare occasion that I'm by the beach I, uh, rarely notice the exact race of all the eye candy strutting around. I figure they're all looking for a guy with far more money than I'll ever see in this lifetime. Never was one for window shopping with an empty wallet, so to speak, so vast array of barely covered curves on display to the highest bidder usually makes me quite happy to head home to the Big Island.

(How's that for cynical and gross overgeneralizing!? Geez....)

Pleased to meet you, Don. :) I'd talk more about history... but your fingers already hurt and it is a bit off topic.

SpeedTek- Really? Obama is responsible for the NDAA? That sucker was easily passed by both parties in both houses. Everyone in D.C. is responsible for that blatant violation of the Constitution. What the fuck were they thinking?! This whole "War On Terror" idea has WAY too many loopholes large enough to drive a cruise ship through...

A favorite quote about the NDAA: "Terrorists! You may take away our lives, but only WE can take away our freedoms!"

Hawaii was invaded. How do you think we all got here?

I'd be more concerned about who takes over when the systems start to fail and the US Empire gravy train dries up. There are more than a few possible dictators here chomping at the bit to leap on top of the smoking debris pile and become the next 'big man' for sheeple to follow.
If you dissolve your enemies in acid, technically that's turning your problems into a solution.

That thing will be on the bottom of the ocean within ~72hrs of commencement of hostilities.  US silent service, baby!

Here's the thing tho...Hawaii was important; back when ships ran on sail and/or coal, before planes could fly non stop round the world, before labor laws and unions and the constitution put an end to profitable agriculture.

Nowadays, we have tourism and Inouye, pretty much the only reasons why anyone has stuck around, including the military.

Hawaii has no resources, therefore it will not be invaded, ever.
Hawaii produces nothing worthwhile to justify invasion.
Hawaii is not targeted by any countries ICBMs.
Even terrorist could care less about Hawaii.

On topic, the best way I see to stop/resist an invasion would be, to not write letters, but to form community militias now.

Hawaii is the best deep-water port in the Pacific, located halfway between the west coast and Asia, it's extremely important strategically.  Not to mention that it is (regardless of what the sovereignty advocates say) US soil; it's not going to be abandoned to it's fate.  Especially considering that Obama just made a big speech about how Asia is the new area of focus for US foreign relations, Hawaii will continue to be militarily vital to US interests.  You still need bases that are close to the action, even though planes can fly around the world, warships haven't gotten much faster since WWII, which means that staging them out of Hawaii vice San Diego or Bremerton knocks off almost a week of transit time to where they're needed.  Fighters and bombers also benefit from shorter transits to and from their mission areas; obviously a 4-hour flight is much preferable to a 10-hour flight or longer.

And keeping all that in mind, I would be shocked if Oahu weren't on China and Russia's nuclear hit list.  I'd certainly target us if I was them.

Here's the reason as to why we would be on there hit list. Hawaii, Kauai in general, has launching capabilities. Tracking systems monitoring things in and out of Asia. That's the way i see it.

Indeed.  Pretty much anyone who has the capability and thinks they might piss of the United States probably has us in their sights, for the exact same reason the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941.

And you know this how?

Hawaii is a strategic location, that is why the military is here. Not tourism.

Eh, shuddup!! :)

Ok, I admit I was being a little sarcastic with my comment. The part about nuke targets came from a research paper that listed all the possible targets the Russians would hit in the event of nuclear exchange. Honolulu was listed as a tertiary target.

I wonder if that was a paper from before Pearl became a major base for nuc attack subs.  If not the Russans, the ChiComs would definitely want it nuked, would be a major irritant to any naval ambitions yhey might have.

When I worked there, I could almost feel the bullseye on the place, particularly if a carrier was in port.  Before the nineties, West Loch was a nuke weapons storage site.

The military will still be here even if that happens, though. Makes Hawaii a very, very difficult target. If it were to actually be invaded the Military might make use of civilian militias. That would be the best way to defend Hawaii from invasion. We gun saavy civilians can think we're badass but rudimentary unit tactics tend to shred disorganized resistance. Sniping can certainly have an impact, but the invading force is going to have snipers, too. Unless the civilian resistance is organized it won't likely do much more than slow the invasion a bit and get a bunch of gun owners killed. Possibly even cause some problems for the military operations.

Just being realistic.

We have good guns and we know how to use them, for sure, but going up against teams of trained soldiers each with automatic assault rifles supported by SAW's and designated marksmen? Air support? Drones? Armor and artillery?

There is a huge power in having an easily mobilized, armed civilian force, though, and any invading force would realize that - even without efficient military organization. I have a feeling that the military would call on Hawaii's gun owners and provide rudimentary training in unit tactics should the need arise. If nothing else we could help with logistics so that better trained soldiers are freed up for the front lines. And I'd expect ex-military to be called on to rejoin the main force. The US Military will NOT let the Pearl go without every ounce of fight it can put up - and it would probably be in the best interest of the civilians to do everything they can to support that.

Its one of the reason I'd want to have NATO caliber weapons on hand. I can provide my own ammo to a point but it would be nice to save that for hunting if it comes down to it.

Some bunch of ragtag miltia types with rudimentary weapons training, and explosives making created so much bloodshed they ousted the russian bear in A-stan and now we are having the same fiasco and Iraq is another insurgent warfare style battle.  There is something to be said about insurgent warfare though with the global economy and how all the countries make money from each other I doubt any of this would ever happen.

um, no. The main reason russia lost is because we gave the afgans advanced weaponry. They were getting chewed up until they got stingers and anti tank capabilities from the US.
