When you make a new law that makes something illegal that wasn't before, you necessarily get more law-breakers.

Quote
The city auditor and advocates for domestic violence victims said the reason
behind the spike is a policy change that makes physical abuse a felony when
it's in the presence of children 14 years or younger.

While this change was made with good intentions, the auditor and advocates
say-- it's also a strain on public agencies trying to help.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

If the feminazis get their way, just yelling at your spouse (the female one, of course) will get you slapped with this, and loss of 2A rights.

I was married to one of those. Now I'm not and much happier with my new wife. My kids like her much better too. The threat of baseless accusations is a real problem that we should all be concerned about. Not only can your spouse keep you from seeing your kids but also your firearms. If this happens to you, prepare to spend your entire life savings plus more in trying to get them back. Good luck.

Domestic violence cases are a mess to begin with. False allegations are rampant, real instances often don't get reported, and depending on whether the victim is male or female, significantly affects the arrest rate.

Case in point, domestic violence shelters will only take women and children, not men.

What about transgenders?

Also the most volatile. So I told my wife if I hear some stuff going on from our neighbors, i will call 911, but other than that, mind my own damn business.  I'm not trained to handle DV situations.

Sometimes there are those who are truly abused and get saved because the neighbors call 911 and police take the necessary action.

If you look at the abuse law, it was written to protect those who are truly abused, who are psychologically defeated and aren't able to save themselves from controlling abusive spouses. The intentions are all well and good but in reality it seems most abuse cases aren't that situation. Most cases seem to be spouses or bf/gf who have relationship problems and an argument goes too far. They often both hit each other but one does it harder (the man usually) or one takes the step to report it (the woman usually). These aren't really situations where the victim cannot stand up for themselves and the court has to take the place. They aren't situations where someone needs to get arrested and have a criminal record necessarily. Maybe personal or couples counseling.

So you have these more strict domestic violence laws and force police to enforce them, of course you are going to see more cases. They passed this new update to the law where it is a felony if someone under 14 can see or hear the abuse incident. They passed it because studies have shown that there is measurable harm to children who witness their parents being violent so their intentions were good but the law itself is poorly written. So mom and dad get into an argument, dad pushes mom away because she is in his face, mom falls and complains of pain to her body from the fall, their kid is in the next room, and now the dad gets a felony. Think this is appropriate? Cops don't want to be to blame so they aren't going to make a judgement call and arrest whenever there is a technical violation. On top of that, the way they wrote the law, technically if two brothers fight and the third is there to witness it, bam, felony abuse arrest.

The politicians who write these laws are not in any way susceptible to being held accountable for the unintended negative consequences of their actions. All they do is smile and wave and self-righteously proclaim that they "did it for the children" or "public safety" or some other similar self-congratulatory bullshit. Meanwhile they feed at the public trough, usually making something "on the side" due to their position, only to then retire with a publicly funded pension plan. It never ends.  :crazy:
