I think more officers will also follow.

This wasn't what I had expected, but WTF?  With all the FBI investigations going on, you'd expect officers would be on their best behavior but I guess old habits are hard to break.  Chief Ballard appears to be living up to expectations of the community and police officers in that she's cleaning up the department and taking responsibility.

Four Honolulu police officers have been stripped of their badges and guns and are facing a federal investigation for allegedly forcing a homeless man to lick a urinal in a public restroom.

In the early 1980’s a coworker of mine got $300k from HPD because they handcuffed him and then forced him to catch a toad with his mouth at Kapiolani Park.  He used half the money to buy a pretty nice house and a new car.  Banked the rest.  You could buy a nice home for $130k back then.

Well, the side that's causing the FBI to get involved was told by a 5th Cop.

What I heard is they are receiving the benefit of the court appointed defense lawyer because they claimed financial hardship. If it is true that they are not paying their $5,000/month mortgage on their Hawaii Kai property any more then it will probably change their financial situation enough that they may no longer be in a financial hardship. Therefore the court would have the right to take away the court appointed defense attorney. We'll see what the court decides to do about this.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

Wait they get a court appointed lawyer because of financial hardship,  but if people cannot afford a lawyer they get a public defender? Unreal

Here is the part that gets to me. They can afford a $5000/month mortgage. And they are claiming financial hardship because they are having a hard time paying it. How many people do you know that can pay a $5,000/month mortgage and claim financial hardship?

They know how to work the system.

They were making around $300k before all this happened so where's all their money go?  They also spent $800K on attorneys fees before they were even charged with a crime.

The Kealohas’ attorneys wrote in a court filing that the Kealohas are financially unable to pay for their defense.
The costs include undisclosed monthly payments on their $1.24 million Hawaii Kai home, including a mortgage,
a home equity loan and another mortgage to one of their attorneys for up to $700,000 worth of attorney fees.

“It’s clear their debt exceeds their assets,” Seabright said. “It’s clear there isn’t cash available to pay for counsel.”

On Wednesday, the Kealohas’ attorneys told Seabright that the couple are living only on Louis Kealoha’s pension
and have a daughter in college.

Police departments are socialist organizations, but unlike sheriffs the chiefs are appointed by the state instead of voted in by the people. Therefore it's foolish to expect them to feel any accountability to the citizens when every precaution has been taken by the state to make sure the cops don't sympathize with the citizens and actually consider the citizens as the enemy.

Is there any government agency, branch or office at local, state or federal level that ISN'T socialist?

Like everything in America that actually serves a useful function  it's usually a mix. Unfortunately for socialist institutions to work properly they have to be run democratically. It's the built in protection against the scum rising to the top.

But wait...there's more!  The fire chief has a good defense though.  Who would want to have an affair with the crazy lady?  Or he can claim insanity.

This case keeps getting better.

Firefighter allegedly lied to grand jury about affair with ex-HPD chief's wife

For months, the FBI has been investigating whether Katherine Kealoha was having an affair with Hawaii County Battalion Chief Jesse Ebersole — and using money stolen from her relatives to pay for secret rendezvous with him, including flight tickets and hotel rooms.
