Lawsuit filed 08/04/2017 where a SWAT (SRT) team member alleges that a Sig P320 discharged when it was dropped, full holstered,
when he was loading equipment into his vehicle. The bullet unfortunately, struck him in the knee.

He's seeking $7 Million in actual damages and punitive damages plus attorney fees.

Did some digging (Google only) and seems like more "reports" of failures.  Something about Dallas PD removing the P320 from list of approved firearms.  I have a buddy that's an officer in Houston (not really nearby), but I would think he'd have some info as he's also a gun nut.

Then there are all sorts of other test criteria (SAAMI and DoD) that the P320 reportedly passed.

Will continue to keep and eye on this.  Though it was interesting that I found a thread started in Jan 2017 on a Sig forum with someone asking about a "drop safety".  It was long, but I'll have to go back and read that thread close.  Had some pretty good discussion about the mechanisms of the P320.

Not that long ago, Chris Bartocci -  a former technician for Colt Defense, LMT, and Otis Technology, uploaded a detailed video explaining the "shortcuts" the military took upon deciding what pistol won the XM17 designation. Been loving this YouTube channel BTW. TONS of detailed info of various topics.

I'm surprised Sig didn't use the safety trigger thingy that most manufacturers use.  Extra 25 cents would've solved the problem.

The military is notorious for buying shit that needs modifications before it even gets to the end user.  Corner cutting at its finest meanwhile I'm sure a lot of pockets have been lined on all sides.

How would the Glock "safe trigger" have helped in this case?  Is the P320's trigger being jarred from the fall?  A thread on a Sig forum sort of discussed something about the trigger mechanism, but I haven't gone back yet to read.

I was just thinking this was an issue of firing pin block, which is something many (or most recent production) guns have.  Like the difference between series 70 and 80 Colt 1911s as well as guns like CZ versions with and without the firing pin block.

That seemed super safe.   :o

Especially for the guy doing the video.  I mean they were wearing plates, but was it only me, or did anyone else have the Jim Carrey voice saying "What if he shot you in the face"?   ;D

Yup, trigger is moving back  from inertia.  Firing pin block wouldn't do anything.

I'm sure they're using blanks in the videos.

Yeah.  I was mostly joking around.

Ahh.  I'll go back and read up more later.  The thread was about drop safety and they had a diagram/gif about some tab or something in the path of the trigger/disconnect.  But I didn't read fully.

yeah, in the original video, they said if they changed to a straight trigger, it reduced the occurrence to almost zero in a gun that was doing it all the time

From the other video, the guy said that the 320 trigger is 6% heavier than the X5.  So they put the X5 trigger in various 320 frames and no issues.  They also shaved off 30% of something from the stock trigger and had no issues.  So I guess 320 owners will now get a lighter trigger for free.  Or an X5 trigger maybe?
