I wouldn't say it's terrible acting, it just doesn't feature the emotional crap that Hollywood has conditioned us to expect. I thought the dialogue seemed off, too, but the more I think about it, the more I think that it was accurate. I don't remember the last time I had a deep heart-to-heart with a friend. Most actual guy dialogue is nothing like Hollywood's portrayal. My buddy went IA, and the pre-deployment conversation went something like this: "Well, I'm leaving, Scammy." "Hey, don't die or anything. Shoot a camel for me!" Pretty sure if Siskel and Roper were critiquing that, we'd have gotten two big thumbs down for our horribly shallow depth of emotion.
