Active Shooter(s) -- Las Vegas
« on: October 01, 2017, 08:49:20 PM »
I just grabbed the top story I seen but in a few of the videos it sounds like a machine gun and the shooter(s) is just mowing down people at this country music festival. I heard another story that there are multiple shooters and at least one of them is shooting from the 32nd floor of one of the hotels.

So far at least 2 dead, 24 injured, 12 of those in critical condition...being reported by one of the hospitals. That number will surely rise. News reports the shooter is down, whatever that means...probably killed. Hopefully just the one guy...we'll see.

Messed up situation, hope no one else dies.

If this is right, sounds like someone fired from the hotel tower.  Can't do much against that.

Concert-goers reported seeing muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the country music festival and the sound of what they described as automatic gun fire.

Sounds like a 10 second bursts of fire, 100 round drum or multiple shooters?  Bump fire stock?

I'd say beltfed, but those things are so rare to have.

Not much for the people to do out in the open in a crowd.

From the press conference:

100+ injured
20+ dead

Numbers are best estimate based on reports.  Subject to change as new info is reported.

At the press conference now the police spokesman says over 20 dead and over 100 injured if I heard correct.

Was writing the same numbers as you were. That is a lot of people...much more than the original reports.

shit sounded full auto.  Could be a pre 86 ban weapon, but those are expensive as hell.  could also be a semi-auto conversion, the instructions are out there on the internet, and from my understanding not particularly hard to do.    And criminals and terrorists aren't exactly known for following the law.

I'm betting it's an AKM with a 75 round drum, makes sense to me since the rate of fire is slow and the string of fire seems to exceed something like a magpul D60 out of a fullauto AR.
Someone said that they needed a sniper on site (although I'm not seeing where that person got that information from). Perhaps this might trigger some changes to the typical officer's patrol rifle? 1-4 or 1-6x optics or addition of red dot magnifiers? The shooter was on the 32nd floor, so a magnified optic should make spotting and suppressing the shooter more easier (granted if they did spot the shooter in the first place)
(Edit: according to what I read on LA Times it was the SWAT team that stopped the shooter)

Unfortunately this might heat up all the anti-gun folks but we can back it up with information on how hard and expensive it is to get a class 3 firearm and how illegal it is to convert a semiauto without the license.

That's what I'm seeing so far.  50 dead & 200+ injured.

This is what ppl were reporting,  with bump stock

the weapon used was an AK47 modified to full auto and he was using 100 round drum magazines not the standard semi-auto and 30 round magazines.
.............

I can easily see this resulting in a call for nationwide mag limit and ar ban.  Even though the full auto mod is already illegal.  Even with prelim numbers,  it's being reported as the deadliest mass shooting.

Shooter committed suicide, had at least 10 guns in hotel room.  He was a 64 year old NV resident.  Of course ISIS is claiming responsibility but no ties found yet.
