From what I've seen, extremely bad shots were caused by either not understanding sight alignment or how to look through a scope which they usually shoot way high, or flinch which they shoot way low.  Other times it's eye dominance issues.

There were several guys shooting but the guy that I "think" shot my target was very recoil sensitive. His friends were laughing at him as he flinched severely when the gun was unloaded. Ah it happens.

I shoot in a few online matches, I would've been pissed if it happened to a target that I was shooting for record. It wasn't

I dont do to well with a post card at 25yds with the ole VP. 2 seconds later, tried a glock and put rounds in the same hole on the post card..."its a clue".

I have a friend who is a great shot with his 1911. Even with his other semi's he is a great shot. I don't remember everything he has. But he could hardly hit within his target frame with his revolver. At first it was so bad that I honestly thought it was his gun and/or ammo that was having a problem as he is such a great shot. One day he asked me to try his revolver so I could figure out what was wrong with it. I picked it up and it was sweet! I fired it several times and I offered to buy it from him right then and there. There was nothing wrong with the gun. His grip and trigger work was all wrong. Meant for a semi auto. I worked with him a little then asked Slick to help him out.

 Since then he has purchased several more revolvers and I believe that is all he shoots now.

I would routinely hit the rebar.
My cardboard looked worse than buckshot.
It took about 6 months to figure out why I was so bad.

This is why I have that standing invitation for anyone who needs or wants basic marksmanship coaching.
