I like the Gold Dot series from Speer. I have heard good things about them and they seem to perform very well in the ballistic gel videos on youtube as well. They have nickel plated casings as well for reliability.

I have gold dot 9mm, .308, and 5.56. I just ordered a .22 mag revolver and I plan on getting gold dot rounds for that gun as well.

I believe HPD uses them as well so I guess I fall into that category of if it is good enough for them its good enough for me too.

When you're issued free ammo, might as well use it at home, too.

BTW, Speer doesn't make a Gold Dot rifle bullet or cartridge in 5.56.   And the smallest Gold Dot handgun caliber they offer is a hollow point .251 bullet -- no cartridge.

So, I find it odd (but somehow not shocking) that EEF has 5.56 Gold Dots now and also plans to buy .22 magnum Gold Dots later, when neither exists.

UPDATE:
After typing that, I had a thought.  When I double-checked the LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY website, Speer DOES make a .22 WMR for Cops.  And what do you know?  They also make a .223 round for LAW ENFORCEMENT, but no 5.56.

I guess I should have realized he shops where the Cops shop.   :geekdanc:

Both of those Gold dot 223 and 22 wmr are sold on the civilian market and can be bought easily online and in some stores on the mainland for sure. It might just be that no one locally stocks them normally.

Okay, I was looking in the "Bullets" section.  If you go to "Ammunition", there's a .22 WMR available.  But, all the ammo listed is handgun calibers.  No rifle ammunition other than SBR in .38 +P and .40S&W.

If you want the rifle ammo, it's still going to be in the LE series.

About 2 years ago when i got my first AR, i went to KGS and inquired. I got 2 boxes of what Dan suggested. But i threw the boxes away, so i have no idea what brand they are.

Next trip to vegas, im gonna see if the LE gold dots 223 are available.

GD 223 Rem 62 gr is readily available locally. I think the 55 gr one as well. Last time I saw, I think they were around $17-18 per box of 20.

Yeah, because cops carry a lot of .22 WMR pistols

BTW it is marketed for law enforcement, it isn't law enforcement only, anyone can buy them.

But I do credit you for retracting the statement you initially made out of ignorance.

I wish I could give you credit for being gracious, but your insult ruined any points you earned.

I guess that's typical for you, huh?

I reply in kind. Don't throw punches if you don't want me to throw them back.

Glad you're holding yourself to that higher standard you pretend to believe in.

SNIP

Damn that round is pretty expensive.  It would be cool to see how these perform against SWC loads.  A friend made some ballistic gel and it's not cheap, so understand that it's expensive to do tests like these.

I only have FMJ for my .38 SPL revolver, but I had been looking around for defensive loads.

I don't use my pistol as my primary home defense firearm, but when it was, I opted for Federal HST 9mm 124gr.

These were hard to find on island, but Security Equipment Corp had them in 50 round boxes.

I thought the tests in this video was interesting. Pork ribs!  ;D

He’s an admitted fan of GDs, but sounds like he’s done a bunch of testing on his own. I’m not saying that he’s an SME or should be trusted, but also interesting in that seems like he did his own research and testing.  As a wise man once told me, “trust but verify”.
