Hi all...new here. I moved to Oahu last September. I'm really sorry if this has been discussed here before; I tried doing a search but wasn't successful. I'm really confused regarding the supposed "grey area" surround AR magazine capacity. I fail to understand how a law CLEARLY stating that it applies to PISTOLS (aka handguns) is being enforced for rifles (read: held with 2 hands and shoulder fired).
“The manufacture, possession, sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition of detachable
ammunition magazines with a capacity in excess of ten rounds which are designed for or capable of
use with a pistol is prohibited." Haw. Rev. St at. § 134Â8(c).
What am I missing?!

Welcome Alex!
Because the AR platform includes a pistol version it makes the mags capable of being used in a rifle or pistol configuration. Although we are not allowed to register these, the fact that it is manufactured, and out in circulation, is what prohibits us from owning AR magazines of more than 10 rounds. In a nutshell, its just another way for Hawaii's liberal minded law makers to make things difficult for us.
For example, 30 or 20 round mags for M1As, Ruger Mini-14s, and FALs, to name a few, are not manufactured in pistol configurations. Therefore owning them or selling them is not in violation. Most online vendors will not even ship those because they are unclear of the law here and may not care to find out.
Next to Kalifornia, New York, and Chicago, Hawaii is amongst the most anti-gun states in US. I love this place and will always call it home, but Hawaii is not always "paradise", for gun owners. BUT, all of us here hope to change that. = )
Here is an example of an AR pistol. Dont you want one???
