Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals Still Going On (Not Shooting-related) (Read 1752 times)

The other topic for Black Friday Deals is under Firearms and Accessories, so here's one for everything else.   :geekdanc:

VMWare

If you use, or are thinking about, virtualization software to have multiple versions of operating systems on one PC or Mac, VMWare has several deals running through Dec 6th.

You can get 20-30% off Desktop versions, and save even more if you qualify for their educational student/parent/faculty discount offerings.

Now that my kids are out of college, I can't qualify for upgrades to products I bought under the educational discount program.  I must buy a new license to upgrade.  (Honestly, I'd rather pay more for a license than HPU tuition! )

I just bought the Mac OS Fusion Pro  license and the Workstation Pro for Windows & Linux license for a combined discount of 50%.  Total with tax: $214.84.

This is the cheapest I've seen their pricing in a really long time.  Just thought I'd share in case someone else is interested.

p.s.  I have been using the old Fusion version 8 for years.  When I upgraded my MacBook to MacOS Catalina in Oct, VMWare no longer worked (black screen in the virtual machine).

I downloaded the trial version of Fusion 11.5.  Problem solved.  Just so happens my trial license expires in two days, just in time to take advantage of the sale.

Not a Black Friday or Cyber Monday Deal.
Free Windows 10 download, still available.
If you have valid license Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, the upgrade is still available, you will just need to download the Download Tool.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

"If you are installing Windows 10 on a PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista, or if you need to create installation media to install Windows 10 on a different PC, see Using the tool to create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) to install Windows 10 on a different PC on the url listed above."

"Note: Before you install Windows 10, check to make sure your PC meets the system requirements for Windows 10. We also recommend going to the PC manufacturer's website for any additional info about updated drivers and hardware compatibility."

I did my personal laptop that initially had Vista home, which I upgraded to Windows 7, with a larger hard drive, a few years ago.  It took 3 hours to upgrade to Windows 10.  It appears to be functioning properly.

Home Depot had tons of decent deals on tools and tool storage solutions.

One item I was eyeing was the Husky 9-drawer mobile workbench with wooden top.  I have the same from a few years ago and it's been great for me.  I can definitely use more storage and worktop space.

Black Friday price was $348, marked down from $398.

The price online AFTER Black Friday ended is now $298!  I guess they stocked up more than they needed and now need to clear out the warehouses.

I know what I'm getting for my birthday/Christmas present this year.   :geekdanc:  (Birthday was this week).

Update:

Went to Home Depot in Pearl City tonight to pick up a mobile workbench.  The website said they had 2 in stock there, and 9 in Honolulu, which seemed strange.  Just a few days ago they had dozens.  Tonight I checked, and the website says 164 in stock at Pearl City.

As I entered the store, there were 5 on the showroom floor with a bunch of Christmas special buys.  Looking closer, I noticed 4 of them had more-than-minor dents in the back panel.  One, though, was perfect except for a couple of small scratches on the back and 2 super-small "dimples" on one side.

When I asked the Customer Service rep about getting one, I half-jokingly said I'd take a dented one if I can get $100 off.  She didn't skip a beat and entered $50 off to see if the system would accept it .... and it did!

So, I picked out the best of the 5 and had it loaded on my pickup.  $249 for a workbench formerly priced at $399 seems like a good deal to me!

I noticed when I was shopping they had another 8-10 in boxes sitting in an aisle.  The boxes looked like the forklift operator had his learner's permit.   :shake:  Explains the dented units on display.

Merry Christmas!!   :geekdanc:

Update #2:

I unloaded the workbench from my truck and wheeled it into my workshop this afternoon.  Surprise!!  It's the same height and width as my other one, but it's half a foot deeper.  I seem to remember one thing I wanted in the first bench was a small footprint.  Now I have the space for two, so not an issue.  Just much more space in the same number of drawers to fit things that didn't fit in my other workbench or tool chest.  I also can fit a power tool or two on top with room to work, too.

The gift that keeps on giving!
