Bad idea in my opinion. It might chase away the smash and grab opportunistic type burglars, but you'd entice the more experienced ones. The smarter ones will stake out your house and it only takes a few days to figure out your routine, or if/when your house is empty. Firearms are highly desirable to the criminal element. I have great neighbors who I totally trust, but I don't even want them knowing what I have. When I go hunting or to the range, everything gets loaded with the garage door closed. All it takes is someone visiting them to mention it to someone, who may mention it to someone else who happens to be a criminal. There are dozens of scenarios where word can get out to people who might end up stealing them.
I know of a guy who got his firearms stolen. We're talking nice collector and exotic stuff. His entire safe got stolen while he was on a trip. The culprit? His neighbor's daughter's friends. They knew they had all the time in the world to take the entire safe, and that's exactly what they did. From what I understand, nothing from the safe was ever recovered. It was other stolen items that connected them to the burglary. Don't trust anyone.
