Suppose that the person who told you this did so deliberately because they knew that you’d repeat it in a public forum and get yourself in trouble?  I’d advise you to avoid that side of the exhibition hall in the fall.  I’m no attorney but writing false things about a business is libelous especially of they have records that demonstrate otherwise.

#1 Nothing I mentioned about the business was negative in nature so it would be hard for them to claim damages.
#2 Reporting the existence of a rumor would be something very difficult to sue over.

I am not worried.

False.

I clearly stated that it was something I had heard and didn't know if it was true. Mentioning the existence of a rumor for discussion is not the same as spreading a rumor.

Why post a rumor with no idea if it's true?  That's no better than idle gossip.  It accomplishes nothing other than to spread lies.

Where's the value in posting a rumor you can't/didn't verify?  If it is found to be false, you may be guilty of libel against the company you commented on.

Too bad you refuse to admit you were wrong.  I grew up in a time when gossip and rumors were understood to be a sin -- causing nothing but conflict and dishonest opinions of others with potentially no foundation in the truth.

But, you go ahead and believe you did nothing wrong.  We all know what you did.  One day I hope a subpoena in a civil action against you does a better job of explaining it to you.

When you hear a rumor, to not spread it you have to keep it to yourself. If you regurgitate it in any context, whether maliciously or to merely start a discussion, and the person with whom you are having the discussion, or anyone around, has never heard about it, well then you've just spread the rumor. That is the definition of spreading rumors. This many people knew the rumor... you opened your mouth around virgin ears... and now more people know the rumor. A fairly simple concept, really...

Simple, yet in our pop culture, rumor and gossip sells.

It teaches bad habits.  More often than not, people spread rumors to make themselves feel more important.  "Listen to me!  I know something juicy about so-and-so!"

OGC got 1k standard range 9mm for $350.  Add them to the list of gouging.  Two stores i will never buy from again.

Gonna spread BS make sure you got your facts right.  Only thing that expensive was Federal 147gr.  Thats NOT standard range ammo.  Standard range ammo is cheaper lines like CCI Blazer, PMC etc which when we had it was STILL $249/1000 which is what we sold 180 cases at.  Currently even Federal 115gr is DEALER cost at $12/box including shipping to our door so $240 per k and we sell at $299.  $59 or 20% markup per case.  You think that gouging not much I can say

I’m not a “white knight” for them by any means, nor am I saying that someone can’t freely express their opinion on something.  An opinion is different than spreading or repeating unsubstantiated rumors or claims.  Especially if they have documentation to the contrary, like say, an invoice from a distributor.  And you’re right, they probably won’t go after you because it wouldn’t be worth their time.

As far as the OP goes, yeah, that’s pretty pricey for a mag fed shotty.  (Note EEF how i expressed my opinion without resorting to unsubstantiated rumor and didn’t post something that is libelous since I don’t know for sure.)

Not spreading anything guy.  You posted your price.  You have every right to charge what you charge. I posted my opinion on your price.  I have every right to state my opinion.  I bought that same federal ammo at 147grn for range shooting from another LGS for $200/1k.  That is why I stated my opinion.  I underatand inflation and that LGS wanting to make a little more profit during these times but your price is a 75% mark up from what I usually get them for.  Don't be mad bro.  Do you. Obviously your successful at it.

To let others know that there may be more to the story than initially reported upon. So that others may consider a possible explanation in forming an opinion.

That is not always the case.

There is a difference between spreading a rumor for gossip sakes, for example "Flappier has pink armpit hair". It serves no real value of any sort.

However the nature of this thread is one of judgement of the actions of a company without knowing the reasons why they set the particular price. In my instance, I stated what I had heard as a possible explanation so that people who wish to rush or come to a judgement would have an additional bit of information with which to consider in their judgement. In essence the "rumor", as you call it, really is an exercise in refraining from jumping to conclusions. And in so doing I clearly stated that this was what I heard and was unsubstantiated thereby allowing all who read it to know that it was not to be taken as a certainty but as an item to consider. Let me ask you which is worse, everyone jumping on a claim of price gouging without knowing any explanation, or mentioning a possible explanation for the priced based on what you heard for someone else? I made my choice and I stand by it. I heard a possible explanation so I mentioned it for others to consider with the disclaimer that it was unverified.

There is a significant difference between the two. If you don't want to acknowledge the difference I certainly can't make you. Aloha
