Theres no logical reason to not open the range
Golf is back, retail will open, malls will open, Costco is super crowded
We should all email and call them daily. 10x a day. As much as you can.
Give us a date to reopen. So far it's all BS

One possible hangup for the range not opening yet is the RSO's.  They have to interact with shooters at a close distance due to the noise, and may have to physically touch them.   They also routinely touch the guns to check them.
I don't ever recall being touched by any of the RSOs, nor have they ever touched my firearms without asking first (or if they were assisting with a jam)[NO, I do not need a hug!]
On the pistol side a couple of the guys would offer coaching or direct assistance if requested, but it's not absolutely necessary for them to interact with shooters at contact range.

The range is simply not a priority of fearless leader.

The way I see it opening KHSC poses no more danger than the other places that opened or will soon open.

Once the State opens up more and more, people working, shopping, and doing business in enclosed places will always be more subject to infection than the open air environment of KHSC.

Our leaders need to have trust in their constituents to do the right thing when out and about.  No lover of shooting and shooting sports would jeopardize having the facility close due to non-adherence to safety protocols.

When I think of what is going to open soon vs. why KHSC remains closed, I cannot help but get paranoid about the idea that our leaders just don't like shooters, the shooting sports, firearms, and an armed citizenship that can think critically and are courageous enough to challenge authority, prejudice, and ineptness.  They seem to want to prolong the opening as long as possible, all in the name of safety.

I know it's paranoia and I hope in the next couple of weeks I'm wrong.

What better way to implement their anti gun agenda than to deny us a place to shoot! :'(

All true points.  They think truly, that people need to be ruled over and subjugated.  This whole ordeal is a perfect example and proof of this.  Most reasonable people will take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their families safe from the virus, with the proper knowledge, data, and correct recommendations.

It is the exact same thing we see with firearms in this state.  They think they need to have tyrannical control over ever aspect of gun ownership, to keep the "wild west" from occurring.

and we see the exact same results in the virus outbreak, as we do with their asinine gun laws.    People do what they do, criminals still get guns and commit crimes, people still catch the virus, same same.   The only thing they successfully accomplish is preventing reasonable people from going about their normal existence safely and effectively.    (with their lackadaisical response to the pandemic, I do not believe any of their actions to lock down, and whatever, had any real significant effect on our numbers.)

Kokohead you have to sign in, RSO enforce rules. All other parks dont do this. Except hanauma bay sort of.
Tracking park users and enforcement of rules are much much easier to do at kokohead than any other park
No reason to not open kokohead. Only reason is bc our leaders no like open kokohead

Golf balls make perfect targets. Set yourself up near one of the holes at your favorite course and shoot at any balls that roll your way. Good fun!!!

golf is open, retail will open soon, malls will open next week, salon and haircut places may open soon too.  and Costco is more crowded than its ever been and its been open all this time.
its easier to maintain social distance and keep areas clean and sanitary at the range than it is at a mall or salon.
when these places open before the range does, that means we are getting screwed!  :grrr:

Those places mentioned above have more potential of passing infection than the open air environment of KHSC.  They're thinking of opening malls and food courts like Ala Moana.  Even if they implement social distancing (less people in stores, space tables, etc.) the people are still in enclosed spaces.  Way more chances to spread infection in my opinion.

If our leaders allow golf courses, hiking trails, and parks to open and not open KHSC, the logic does not follow.  All the excuses our leaders make in defense of not opening KHSC will make them look stupid in my opinion.

A simple sign at KHSC that says MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCE for people not on the firing line should be enough.

There is no perfect world.  People will be people.  Most obey laws.  Some don't.  Our leaders think we are stupid when they give lame, cowardly  excuses for hidden agendas.

emailed the Mayor again.  still haven't received a response from the first email I sent him

Mayor Caldwell,
I would like to urge you to open Kokohead shooting complex as soon as possible. The shooting range would be relatively easy to maintain social distancing guidelines and maintain cleanliness.  It would be easier to enforce than all other parks because there are Range Safety Officers at the range to enforce rules, and you have to sign in to use the range. No other parks do this. Therefore it is easier to track users of the park and easier to enforce rules at the shooting range than it is at any other park. Please reopen Kokohead Shooting Complex ASAP.
thank you,

I just finished sending Mayor Caldwell a request to please open KHSC asap.  I asked nicely. ;D  No sense getting all tan-taran, lol!

Hopefully if more of us send requests it'll help getting the park open sooner.  No harm done in trying.

Aloha *****,

Thank you for your comments to re-open the Koko Head Shooting Complex. While we anticipate an announcement regarding outdoor activities soon, at this time, we are unable to give dates or a timeline as to whenspecific restrictions will be modified or suspended. Please know that Mayor Caldwell and the entire City Administration are working hard to chart a safe and gradual path towards lifting current emergency restrictions and opening up the economy.

Determinations regarding the re-opening of businesses and activities and the timeline for doing so are being made in consultation with epidemiologists, public health experts, and medical professionals. Thesedeterminations are being made on the basis of both an environmental assessment and a risk assessment of the business, service, or activity being considered, including any potential modifications to reduce the associated risks.

We appreciate the cooperation of our community as we work together to limit the spread and impact of this pandemic.

Khsc is low on the priority list because it generates $0.00

It's actually a drain on the budget because they have to start paying the RO's again.

True that KHSC generates zero $.  And every shooting enthusiast including myself are thankful that we have a place to shoot free.

I don't believe the RSO's wages and salaries are based on revenue from the park itself, but from a budget already fiscally approved.  Similar to the lifeguards at beaches and rangers at parks.  And all of our taxes are paying for these services.

We should tread lightly but strongly make our wishes known.  If nobody says anything they will stick their heads in the sand and hope it goes away.

We don't want to lose what little we have now but I have a feeling if we don't make our wishes known they will procrastinate.

kokohead users are trackable bc we sign in
rules are enforced by RSO. I've seen them kick people out of there for not obeying the rules. no other parks have enforcement of rules.  I've been to the beach, hiking trails, malls, Costco, Walmart, safeway.  all those places do a very poor job of enforcing social distancing and keeping the area clean. safeway has a sign to not place your stuff on the belt until the cashier says so, so they can clean the area between customers. I've never seen 1 cashier clean the area between customers yet. last time I went I put my stuff on the belt when previous customer was done. cashier pointed at sign. so I took my stuff off. not even 1 second went by and she said "ok you can put your things down now".  so kept on putting my stuff on and off, on and off, on and off saying to her "how bout now. how bout now. how bout now."  i'm getting short fuse now with everyone else being so stupid. she didn't even clean the belt. why you want to remove my stuff for .2 seconds just to tell me "ok now"  what a bitch!!!  :grrr:

we need to keep calling. emailing. bitching to them. bc the longer we wait, the longer we wait.   :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
