Nope. Being arrested is going through the legal system, being interviewed as a possible suspect is going through the system but neither of those are prosecution. Being prosecuted is if the case is being taken to court.

If you shoot someone in your home and the police arrest you, interview, and then let you go with no charges then you haven't been prosecuted.

Except that’s not what Ballard is saying.

Except that’s not what Ballard is saying.

Hypothetically, if what EEF said was what Ballard meant, then the obvious answer to her question would be "Absolutely YES!"

To refresh his recollection, she said:
Quote
"Whether you're in the right or you're wrong, you're still going to have to go through the legal system,
you're going to have to go through all this," Ballard said. "It's going to be a toll on your family, it's going to be
a financial toll. Is it worth it?"

That does not sound like being detained, questioned, and released without charges to me.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

You are right, she didn't spell it out. It would have been better if she did. But she also didn't say prosecution either.

People may believe she meant this or that but we shouldn't misrepresent what she actually said based on what we suspect she meant.

Obtuse.

Dense.

Both?

That’s pretty naive to think that...

Innocent until proven guilty is what it is supposed to be. But apparently not for Premier Ballard. Trying to rationalize her statements otherwise is wishful thinking at best.

But she did spell it out! My goodness, she said it will be a toll on your family and finances. What kind of toll on your finances is it if you are released and not charged? She’s obviously saying that if you shoot, you will be arrested and have to prove yourself in court that your use of force was justified. What part of that don’t you understand?

To me, as long as she wears that HPD uniform, she is just the chief of police.

Administer her duties as the police chief and nothing more.

Take off that uniform (put something else on, though, please..... :shake:) and as a private citizen you can make political statements.

Other than that, zip it and do your job.  Leave the political stuff to our already inept career politicians.

Vent over.  Back to our local programming...... :stopjack:

Email Hawaii news now and ask them to add a segment regarding Koko Head.  That should put pressure on the mayor.

I emailed a bunch of the HNN clowns asking them to inquire about the range.
I really doubt if they will though. Don't hold your breath.

He thinks plain English can't be properly understood.  He needs the words parsed and nuanced to death to give the speaker/writer "every benefit of the doubt" lest they be judged harshly.

It's another way of not holding people in power accountable for the things they say.  When politicians use that trick enough times ("I said that, but it's not what I meant"), some people start believing it's the listener's responsibility to interpret what was meant while ignoring what was actually said.

It's fun for him to argue over what a law says or what a person meant, because the only thing he uses as a basis for the argument is the out-of-context quote he wants to spin.

Dang. Nice segue to Trump.

What if we email him to re-open the range.
Seems like it might be our only hope.

You know Crazy Mazie, Schitz, Taggard and Case won’t be any help.
And Kermit and Caldwell sure aren’t helping.

(Trying to be respectful of Mayor McCheese as he’s the one who could probably do it if he gave a damn. )

It would make a good story.  Especially if presented in a way where viewers can see how illogical it is to open up other places in the state that poses a higher risk of infection than the shooting range itself.

It would put tremendous pressure on the Mayor.  The timing for the story is crucial though.  It needs to come out immediately after the mayor ceremoniously starts to declare the other places open.  And this is if he didn't include the shooting range obviously.

I'd love to see this but yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath.  I hope there is at least one reporter out there brave and courageous enough to tackle this subject.

I think when june 5th comes and people can eat in restaurants in closed environments. If the range isnt open by then, it would almost be an obligation (if not already) for the rangemasters to open the range for use and we should exercise that right, maintain 6ft spacing. Let them come and try to stop that. If done properly, it would show the true intentions of the politicians to the public.

....
The mayor and/or Kermit holds a press conference a couple times a week. Usually around 3pm or so.
Journalists from various news outlets send questions via text messages. But there is no rhyme or reason as to the schedule.
Furthermore, the general public will never be allowed to attend in person. Therefore contacting news outlets is the only way to ask questions directly.

Yes, innocent until proven guilty. Whats your point?

And I am not "rationalizing" anything, I am pointing out what she actually said instead of making assumptions.

Stop jumping to conclusions. You think you can kill someone in self defense anywhere in this country and not end up facing financial stresses and other stresses? You are hearing what you want to hear.

Even if you are clearly innocent of any wrongdoing you still just went through a traumatic incident. Even if the cops have no case against you, the families of the decedent might still sue you (which costs money). You think the cleanup and repair of your home after you kill someone is gonna cost you nothing?

Why are you standing up for criminals and trying to intimidate someone from defending themselves or their loved ones?!      Here’s an idea, why don’t you go find the Kalihi and Ewa Beach homeowners who encountered this very situation and ask them if it was worth it, and tell them the same things you’re posting here.  Be sure to tell us how it goes. 👍

You’re the very one that jumps to conclusions.  Like you did when “someone” told you a RUMOR that X-Ring was buying firearms at retail prices and marking them up.  “Someone” told you something so therefore it must be worth repeating on 2a.

Some dry wall or wood putty, sandpaper, a swiffer wet jet > dead 💀 and funeral expense for my family.

BTW have you emailed, called, or written our elected officials to reopen the range like the rest of us?

No one is coming, it’s up to us.

Legislation should never be about depriving law abiding citizens of something, but rather taking those things away from criminals.

No one is standing up for any criminals, what are you talking about? Taking a life is a serious thing and it has consequences on so many levels. You think that if you kill a burglary anywhere in this country a cop will show up, shake your hand, tell you that you did a good job, and then leave without anything else happening?

I jumped to no conclusions there, irrelevant.
