Good points Gordy.  I think many who might vote against the leftist machine are demoralized, think, what is the use, too many cattle to fight against.  There are a few like Sam Slom that continue the fight, they need support.

Know little about Cayetano, other than a quote attributed to him some time back that royally pissed me off: "The republican party in Hawaii is irrelevant".  Accurate, perhaps, but to dismiss the opinion of so many citizens as irrelevant (if that was his meaning) was treason.

Glad I was able to move off Oahu.  That place is such a snakepit these days.  Not so many people care about us few scattered on the the neighbor islands.  Maybe keeping a low profile is best..................

Almost everything was in our favor. No one stood up to argue FOR closing the range, and the Parks Director said the range won't be closed. Inspector put it on record that all the knee-jerk reactions for "safety" were from TWO UNSUBSTANTIATED complaints, both from the same person. Funtimes made good points for improvement to the range too. I also saw ifight2protect in the meeting. Mr. Knudsen, the complainant, was present but didn't speak while the meeting was in session. They want to turn the range into a "World Class Shooting Facility", but...yeah...

Simply put, there was overwhelming support for the range.

Edited for grammar

Awesome. Thanks for going everyone. And thanks for the update HNL. Will anything be discontinued such as the 2-400 yard steel?  What was the word on the gate?

I'm thinking world class shooting facility won't have a budget, but just hoping that we don't get any unreasonable restrictions.

Hnl, ren, hope to see you next Sunday.

Mr. Cabato said he will take a deeper look into that because if they ban the gongs, the silhouette range may close. Another person brought that up. No final word.  There was a healthy discussion about the tram trail.  I agree with one of the supporters that there should be no one down (that means the hikers going up the trail) range.  The trail is not official and the previous director tried to close it to his demise.  The trail is a "time bomb" for liability.  From what I've seen there are more unfortunate incidents on that trail than on the range.  Injured hikers and remember that crazy guy that stabbed two people? I hiked up the trail and the view is phenomenal but I agree that the trail should be closed.  Ed Masaki called out Gary Knudsen and said he is a liar.  :shaka: Ed cited his professional experience as a gunsmith (we all know that) and even brought out evidence of what a shot bullet will look like.
Mr. Cabato also mentioned the possibility of a range on Kalaeloa citing that the National Park Service is giving about 400 acres of land to the City.

For the benefit of robtmc, don't know much about what Ben really thinks either, but I like what I am hearing now.
He was a True Jack Burns Democrat in the past as was my dear departed Mother, but as we all know you tend to get a bit more conservative as you age.
There  has always had renegade streak, he's not always toed the party line. He is married to a very successful local business woman. Both were honored as distinguished citizens by the
Boy Scouts at different times.

For anyone who thinks their vote don't count, remember a few years back we came within less than a hundred votes, sixty five, I think it was,of booting Blake Oshiro in Rep district 33.
Gerry Coffee was the challenger. Remenber Blake?
A fire breathing anti gunner and  Civil unions? Your vote does count! He is out of sight now working for the Gov, doing his stuff behind the scenes.
A candidate for his seat is Sam Kong. One of us!!! Those of you out our way need to look hard at Sam. Big in second ammendment rights

FULL DISCLOSURE I am not working for anyone's campaign!!!!

As for the Republican Party  being irrelevant, step back and look at the reality. It may piss us off, but how many "Republicans" are in the legislature. Sam bless him can't do it alone. The Gabbards have abandoned us. The rest are going along to get along, make no waves. What does that leave?

The percentage is abyssmal. So many seats going un-challenged. If the Party was for real this would not be the case. There is NO excuse for a relevant Party not putting up a challenger to EVERY  open seat. One of my mantras is " There is nothing messed up in Hawaii that can be blamed on the Republicans"
They have been out of power for 50 years now. The Party needs to quit playing the Victim, get off their butts and lead. As said there is demoralization.

Sounds like the meeting was a success with lots of our folks on hand. Sorry I could not be there.

Again I will step off  the soap box

Aloha
We must fight the good fight. Count me in.
Aloha

Also, regarding the gate, Ron (a LIFE instructor) made a good point. They seemed like they wanted safety, safety, safety, and Ron pointed out that a car coming from Waimanalo side just before the gate was opened would take it out because of its position. I observed the Parks Director start writing furiously on his pad after that was brought up. It was stated that the gate was there due to persons shooting after hours. The safety issue of cars parked along the Kalanianaole was also mentioned and they seemed receptive to moving the gate past the archery range (whose hours are sunrise to sunset).

I don't know...it's been accepted that the positioning of our range and the trail is safe, but he STILL had to bring it up.

From what I could hear, he was referring to the hikers on the trail, not participants on the range.  Makes sense. From all the mil ranges I've been on there are flags to indicate left and right limits and no one is down range.  Even if there are hikers lost miles away and there is a possibility of them being in front of the range miles away, the range is shut down.

I could have misheard him, but I know the five people around me were looking at him like he was nuts.  We couldn't figure out wtf he was talking about.  To me it sounded like he was talking about someone walking basically down the rifle side while rifle people were shooting lol.  We were like uh wtf? That doesn't happen here.
