To answer the topic's question: No, I would not want to be a cop. I can sit in the comfort of my chair in front of the keyboard and analyze everything and anything in the safety of my home. Hind sight is 20/20.
But cops do not have that luxury. Only training. And hopefully empathy. Courage. Compassion. They have to make gut wrenching decisions everyday. They have to deal with a public that demands their presence immediately when unpleasantries occur and withstand public scrutiny when things don't pan out the way the public wanted.
In the Blake situation, it seems no matter how the cops diffused the situation, they were bound to be scrutinized. People seem to say "they should have done this, they could have done that...."
And sure, they should've or could've. But how many of us ever done something then in retrospect wished we have done it better or another way? The consequences of our actions hardly have the fatal or long lasting results that cops have to deal with every day.
All I know is this. The best thing for anyone to do when in a confrontation with law enforcement is to comply when the order of STAND DOWN is given. It doesn't guarantee things will not go awry. But it is the BEST thing to do. Stay vigilant. Be observant. If you are wronged you should have your day in the court of law.
So far the majority of the situations in the recent past where people are all up in arms about injustice, police brutality, unnecessary killings and maiming's, the victims REFUSED TO LISTEN.
Sorry to say this but the majority of them were not the "Angels" their family make them out to be.
