Don't take me wrong in not a democrat by any means. I normally vote republican but I am disappointed in their lack of embracing freedom which they should be doing. Also more conservative type of libertarian so I think government has its place and is important. In my mind it should foster a environment where either and any side can have their own beliefs and cultures. Thanks, in learning to value the present rather than focus too much on the future.
Freedom is a tricky concept if you don't study it.
Freedom can be forfeit if the government's laws are violated. Therefore it's understood that the government has the power to suspend certain rights and freedoms in those circumstances.
If I believe sex with a minor is not morally wrong, according to your "either and any side can have their own beliefs and cultures," you can't impose your morals and beliefs on me.
If I think eating human flesh and selling girls and boys into sexual slavery are beliefs of mine, you must accept. them If none of those involved feel they are being victimized (well taken care of, etc.), there's no reason to impose YOUR beliefs on them.
Society places norms and limits on freedom based in part on its morality and societal harm it can cause. If those norms are NOT IMPOSED on everyone evenly, then society is tolerating behavior that is harmful.
You have a basic "principle" -- that no one can/should impose their beliefs on others at all. We do that everyday. Laws are meant to impose behavioral "beliefs" (what's right, wrong, good, bad). If I believe the Constitution does not apply to me, then YOU are imposing YOUR belief on me when you wave it in my face.
Your hypocrisy is that you believe the Constitution applies to everyone, yet no one is to be forced to obey the Constitution -- a document that absolutely contradicts a large number of cultures and belief systems. One conflict is the Constitution versus Islam. Islam is not just a religion, but it's also the foundation for how government must work. So, if your neighbor is a practicing Muslim who violates laws derived from the US Constitution, you're telling us that he's to be allowed to behave as he wants out of "beliefs and culture."
See where the disconnect in your principles lie?
