With all this talk of Facebook being political in its moderation I thought it would be interesting to gather data from a conservative group's experience on Facebook, to see how many people have actually experienced political moderation.

Has Facebook deleted or blocked any posts you started? How about comments on other people's posts? Did you notice any pattern on what type of comments/posts get blocked? Were they conservative leaning comments?

I almost daily post conservative arguments on Facebook both on my own posts as well as comments on other's posts. I have been unfriended by people I personally know but I have never had any of my posts/comments blocked.

All it takes is for one person to report you, and for a FB employee who doesn't like your post to delete it.

Happens all the time.  Liberal trolls get together and attack a specific person or post/s, because the more times something is reported, the more likely it will be censored.

One of the favorite troll tactics is to start a mild discussion with someone then waste an hour of seemingly polite discussions, questions, answers and so on.  Then they come at you with something really insulting, which they hope you'll reply to in kind.  As soon as you post an insult of any kind, they report you, and that whole long informative discussion on gun control is deleted.

Yeah, this happens all the time.  I've been the victim of this many times on Twitter, but enough on FB to say it's still a "thing."

I stopped using Twitter and FB the year Obama was reelected.  Too much of a bubble-oriented environment for intelligent people.  Best thing ever happened on Twitter is I won an iPad and a 3 year accidental damage insurance plan for it from SquareTrade.

FB was good in the beginning.  Used it to organize a class reunion on the mainland.  After that, the worm turned ugly. People I'd just seen at the reunion were unfriending me and many others simply because of politics.

All of that isn't the fault of Facebook.   So you expect them not to automate reporting?  Do you think they need one million employees who are perfectly non bias looking at every report?  Democrats do stupid shit  but let's be realistic here.  Conservatives could do the same too if they wanted.

Facebook is mind control software. Talking with real people face to face is a revolutionary act.

FB set up the system.  If they wanted to shut down false reporting, they could.  Just don't delete anything until a HUMAN views the posts in their entirety and judge it IN CONTEXT.  Most of the accounts used to report people would then be locked once the pattern of serial trolling and reporting emerges.

How do you reasonably staff if a HUMAN is needed for the millions of reports they probably get daily.  You have to balance the fact that if they don't have that large of staff illegal content can be up for days.  If they lock accounts, then they make more.

Why are you for censorship by big tech?

Do you work for them?

I am for realism.   I support your ideas but its just un-feasible.  If I got my way the only regulation they would have is fake news.  Hate speech is free speech and the liberals would hate me for it.  I just play the role of devils advocate here for some balance as some things are just not possible.

See the other thread where the account was locked and unlocked BY A HUMAN in less than a day.

Shoots down your "un-feasible" comment.

I replied to that,  there's a difference between humans overriding automation and no automation.  Also a thing called escalation of a case.  The ideal world is if we got an AI that can do 99.9% of a human can do, then we can get to as close to "humans" looking at every report as possible.  Maybe mix that with bans for false reporting and we have ourselfs a good system.  Maybe the AI can find all the fake news.  Then we dont need any moderation of subjects and can attain true freedom of speech.

Just stop arguing.  I never once said "No automation -- humans only" in the process.

Get a grip.

I have to admit, sometimes I admire my own “work”. I don’t share it on social media though.

Unlike his own track records of forming opinions with no direct knowledge of the subject,
he is trying to exclude anyone (like yourself) who has not created an account and used FB.

That's my take on it, anyway.

Maybe we should preface ALL opinion topics with the same exclusion?

"If you don't have any experience other than Google, please refrain from posting your opinion."

Might save a lot of time and gnashing of teeth.   :geekdanc:

Someone interpreted "You're entitled to your own opinion" as "You need an opinion on EVERYTHING, because it's your right!"

I got the impression it was just millenial hubris, that EVERYBODY does it,

Sort of like those iFag phones i see almost everyone poking at.  Some disbelieve when you tell them you do not have one.
From the endless postings, looks like that ignorant kid is poking away non-stop.   Claims to have a job?  When is it worked on?
