Trump didn't push hard for all these things even though he knew what would happen. He had to show the people what would happen, which would cause the need for more secure election laws/rules.
Had he not shown the people, then the fake news would continue their barrage on him calling him a dictator.
Only the simple minded or TDS sufferers still do not see the problems that we have after what was shown to happen.
The federal government can't really push for ANYTHING election-related. The states have the duty and authority to run their elections however they wish. If they want to use a phone app, they can. The only way the feds can intervene is if a voter/voters sue over having their individual voting rights violated.
We found this out in 2000. In the final analysis, after all the selectively targeted recounts, hanging chads, butterfly ballots and blocked observers, the Supreme Court finally said, "Let the original certified count stand." What the STATE certified was what the feds had to accept. That's pretty much how 2020 went. The Supreme Court refused to intervene because the Constitution takes the responsibility to run elections away from Washington, DC, and gives it to each of the states.
It would be nice if the feds used their power of the purse to standardize the voting processes, equipment and rules, but they have chosen not to.
Anyway, what Trump did or did not do was more in keeping with his role as a candidate, and less in his role as President. His campaign sued over some swing states' unconstitutional changing of the rules outside of their state legislature, and so on.
Anyway, the states are the culprits. We'd like for the feds to fix the problems that the states don't seem to want to even acknowledge, but in this case, it's outside of the fed's jurisdiction.
