I see a HDF Range day is scheduled for this Saturday.  Any preview of what will be covered?  Handgun?  Carbine?  Just trying to get an idea of what's planned.  Even after 4 days of shooting this past weekend, still have an itch to shoot.   ;D

Probably a few more rounds of handgun.  Prices on Rifle ammunition are coming back to regular prices, so probably like two more months and we will run a rifle range day.

Nice!  How much of each would you recommend bringing?

I can bring a few cases and sell rifle ammo out the back of my SUV

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

i think chris said july 27th check out the website to be sure though i dont want to be responsible for you missing a epic day at the range like i had on the last one... damn it should be like that every fricken day. Of course you woundnt have a home because of ammo you gonna shoot.  But that should be my choice if iwanna be homeless with a card board safe for my guns!

I highly recommend high-speed gear's taco magazine pouches (they sell at Security Equipment).  As far as holsters go, G-Code, Raven Concealment, safariland, and bladetech are some of the ones I like.

You need at least two magazines (five recommended), and associated holter / magazine pouches for your gun.

Looking to continue your firearms education after your basic pistol course?  Join Hawaii Defense Foundation July 27th for our monthly range day down at the Koko Head Shooting Complex action bays.  We offer free training to members catering to both basic to advanced shooters as well as providing a time to you to run your firearm according to your needs.

July 27 - Range Day

Location:
Koko Head Shooting Complex
Action Bay #1
8102 Kalanianaole Highway
Honolulu, HI, 96825, United States

Schedule:

Intermediate Level Training:
8:00am – 12:00pm

Here we provide instruction to our more experienced members.  With the price of ammunition beginning to stabilize we are reintroducing rifles back into the syllabus.  Previous training events include:  Offhand shooting/malfunction drills, barricade drills and engagement of moving targets.

Free Shoot and Beginner Instruction:
12:00pm – 3:00pm

This is when we open up the range to our members to train at their own pace.  This is also when we take to time to work with our newer members to cover such basics as drawing from holster and fundamentals of marksmanship.

Requirements:
HDF Membership
Participation in a training event of some kind (Basic handgun safety course counts)
Eye and ear protection
Closed toed shoes
Long pants
Belt

Recommended:
Firearm with Holster
Magazine Pouches
Lunch and enough water to keep you hydrated

If you’re still waiting on your permit to acquire or haven’t fully decided on your first purchase you can still participate.  We are experimenting with a ‘Try Before You Buy’ program where you may rent firearms and holsters from HDF for a slight fee or for free if you provide your own ammunition.  Please contact us if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity as this must be coordinated well in advance.

If you have any questions, please contact info@thehdf.org.

What about ammo?  Are factory rounds required or can handloads be used?

I've seen reloads used at the fun shoots with no issues.

I'm not concerned with what you use, just please know wtf you are doing.  If it's a new load... test it first.  No reason to use some crazy +p crazy shit for target shooting though! :-)
