There are only 2 advantages metric has over standard/imperial:

1.  Conformity (or standardization).  That's always been the selling point.  Gives everyone globally a single measuring system instead of needing to convert between systems.

2.  Math.  It's much easier to add, subtract or divide two metric values using whole numbers than it is to deal with decimals/fractions.

As for function, there is no "better" system.  If you can weigh or measure something in pounds or feet and inches, then you can do the same in kilograms or millimeters.  Metric doesn't offer a more accurate method.

I've seen some YT woodworkers who admitted to doing almost everything in metric now.  Their number one reason:  fewer mistakes.  No more calculation errors using fractions.  Every measurement is a whole number and/or decimal fraction, so transferring that to the workpiece is simpler.

Imagine the stories NASA could have avoided if we'd abandoned the imperial system in the 70s or 80s when it was first proposed.

I'm not siding with Omni and saying metric is "superior".  I'm saying standardization can often lead to fewer mistakes.  Having 2 standards is worse than simply avoiding metric altogether.

My personal opinion, the hell with metric system cause ‘MERICA that’s why.
I don’t even know, does anyone else use the foot/yard/mile anymore.
And nothing gets closer or farther or bigger or smaller or colder or hotter or faster or slower depending on which system you use so who cares.
Why couldn’t they convert the foot to ten inches instead of twelve if people needed help?
Why the millimeter as the base measurement ? Who chose the millimeter and the centimeter ?
All just the language you speak.
