Hello All--registered here in April, posted my first comment yesterday, so I figured it's about time I introduced myself.  Tom from Waikiki.  Currently the proud father of an AR-15 (FN-15, 20' barrel) and a match grade M1A which could drive nails if the operator was any good.  Looking forward to being in a National Database (note sarcasm).

Me--retired USAF Security Forces (20 years), then various jobs within the DoD as both Civil Service and Contractor.

Thanks for taking the time to read

Tom

Hi, I'm Denver, from Wichita Kansas. I just moved here and will be staying a year, maybe more if I like it. I'm in to hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and did a lot of reloadingback/bullet casting back home.

I had to leave all of my reloading gear and most of my firearms back home with my brother, but I might try setting up a small reloading bench here if I find a shop with reloading components.

I'm on Oahu, windward side, and very interested in going hunting and fishing on the island, especially hog hunting. I'm also going to be shopping around the next few weeks for some hunting/fishing/reloading gear, as well as general stuff for my apartment.

Oh, and I already joined Hawaii Rifle Association (also a member of the NRA, Gun Owners of America, and Kansas Rifle Association). I'm very happy to help support 2A groups, especially ones like HRA and what they are doing for the people of Hawaii.

Welcome.
Be sure to comply with local laws since nobody does anything illegal here.
I don't know what you reload, but if you want to borrow a turret press, I have one sitting around.
Return it when you leave.
It has dies for 9mm which work ok, but not my favorite.
Also got other basic loading tools you can use

Hi everyone! I'm a longtime firearm owner.  I went to HPD yesterday to pick up my permit and they told me I need a letter from my Kaiser doctor in order to process my permit.
I thought that was kind of late to be telling me this (no notification prior, even when I submitted my application).  I took the info to my doctor and he said that Kaiser will not allow him
to write a letter for a gun permit.
I haven't registered anything for a couple of years.  Has this happened to anyone lately?  I've asked around & have heard it was a problem about 6 months ago, but it got resolved.
I need to find out how & can obtain a permit to get around this policy.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!   This is an on going problem and will only get worse.  Best bet is to vote in politicians that will respect and protect your rights!  Deadline to register to vote is July 14, 2016.  https://olvr.hawaii.gov/

There is an on going search for drs. that will do the letter, however, IMO, It is an infringement of your rights, and you should fight. This Kaiser fiasco is tantamount to guilty until YOU prove your self innocent, IMO.

I'm registered and will vote. I totally agree, how can my healthcare insurance prevent me from gun ownership. It's unconstitutional. Guilty until proven innocent. I had my rights taken away.

Hey all you gun nuts

You can call me Sco, like my user name.
Originally from the SF bay in Cali, then Tacoma WA.
I'm one of them mil implants, but I'm grateful to be here.

Anyway, I like handguns with recoil,  and rifles with "improved" cartridges. I handload for accuracy and expense, and I would shudder to sell a single weapon if the wife made an "ultimatum"... Lol, sorry guys, grilled a steak and got intox'd

I'm in Wahiawa, where da hogs at?

Hello from Oahu, HI. I'm here to discuss weapons and hopefully buy one in the near future.

How do I go about acquiring a M4 or AR-15 if I'm in the Army? Thanks!

Greetings 2aHawaii bloggers! This is my first post. I found this blog, and have learned more about what it is and does because I am one of the ones denied the permit after being flagged by the Kaiser EMR system. I had group counseling for depression in 1995, cleared in four sessions and have totally forgot about that for 21 years. I spoke with Dr. Max Cooper as well and have had conversations with Harvey Gerwig and both have sympathy, but can do nothing.

I wrote a letter to Chief Kealoha, and a Sgt. Jaeger called me and said that upon looking at the flagged part of the medical records that it seemed silly to have to deny me, but that that was their policy and that he recommended me to find an physician outside the Kaiser system, and said that he knew of a few, but would not tell me their names because it was not their policy to do so. Dead end there.

So I called the physicians listed in the 2ahawaii blog (there were a total of four that I could find) and was told by each that they did not do the writing of the letters anymore; those that gave a reason for not doing it, was the possible legal ramifications. I informed them that they were not liable under HRS 134-18 and they said they just didn’t want to take that chance.

I have written letters to both my personal care physician (who sympathizes but whose hands are tied) and Robert M. Pearl, MD Executive director and CEO, The Permanente Medical Groups; president and CEO, Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group; co-CEO, The Permanente Federation, LLC.  I have yet to receive a response.

So I am turning to you, 2aHawaii Blog Members, for a physician referral. Hopefully one when I call them will still do the consultation and clearance letter. Can anyone help, or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance!
