Well aint that some s**t. Is there a provision for active duty military members? I have been reading a bit online on the laws in HI. Is there a certain police station I have to go register or can any station do? Are there any fees that go along with registering my weapons?
And thank you to all of the people who have responded so quickly to my post.
I'm inclined to say no to active duty military, but maybe someone else here knows better.
Firearm registrations on Oahu all go through the main police station on Beretania:
Records and Identification Division, Firearms Section
801 South Beretania Street
Honolulu, Hawaii 96813
Hours are 7:30-4:30, out of state registrations only accepted prior to 4:00 though. I would go around 10am or 2pm, usually no line in my experience.
There's a one time fee for the FBI fingerprinting thing of $16.50, (cash, cashiers check, or money order) bring exact change. I don't know if they fingerprint for out of state registrations, but it would be kinda dumb not to fingerprint everyone.
Also, to clarify that 72 hour thing. It's 72 hours after your arrival or your firearms arrival, whichever is later. But if you can't make it within that time frame then just get it done ASAP, I've never heard of anyone being given a hard time about it.
