Welcome new people.  I 2nd the Hawaii Defense Foundation (HDF) events. Usually on the 3rd saturday of the month, they have an open shoot.  This is where you can bring your firearm and shoot targets from 3 yards up to 30 yards or so.  Pistol, shotgun, rifle, any HI legal firearm.  You can also load mags up to 10rds compared to 5rds at the pistol/rifle side at Koko Head.  You can also rapid fire as long as you are doing so safely.

Then after the open shoots, they have skill builders which rotate from pistol only to rifle only that teaches good techniques and different types of shooting positions (not just standing on the firing line and shooting). You have to sign up for these and it's on a first come first serve basis.

I have learned a lot from the HDF events, mainly safety.  My wife takes the skill builders and open shoots and when she went to CO for classes, she was amazed at the lack of safety compared to the HDF events.

They post on here, their FB and IG when the events take place.

Hello Everyone :shaka:

New guy here. Not in Hawaii yet. Currently living in Nevada but my wife is from Honolulu as well as most of her family. Hoping to transfer there to Oahu in the next two to three years, work won't pay for the moving costs :(. Firefighter/Paramedic for the Fed. US Navy/Iraq Vet. a bit of shooting experience. Have a bunch of toys to include 1 SBR and 5 Suppressors (sad I cannot bring them to HI). Avid reloader, long range shooter and tactical shooter. Trained SWAT medic (not on SWAT at the moment). Shooter of ARs, AKs, pistols, bolt guns (marksman and hunter), shottys. Surfer of 21 years (thought I'd throw that one in there).

Hello all. Just another enthusiast born and raised here, but have mostly strict anti-gun friends and family. Figured it would be a nice change of pace to converse with like-minded people and maybe learn from those with more experience shooting and tinkering. Still relatively new, only starting shooting in 2018. I don't really have a favorite brand. One of my favorite things to quote is "I'm a gun fanboy, I love 'em all." But as my collection is still limited, I only have experience with a couple calibers and a few types, makes, models. Looking to expand the collection but still researching calibers and platforms. Have a good one.

Aloha,

I'm moving from Wyoming to Oahu in two weeks. I'm an avid hunter, angler, reloader, and general outdoorsman. Looking forward to exploring the island and would love to meet some fellow outdoorsmen and women. Is anyone here involved in SAR? Thanks for the very informative site.

Hi Guys,

New to shooting. Purchased my first handgun for my 22nd birthday in the beginning of 2020 right before the whole COVID-19 mess. On the rare occasion that I have time to go shoot I’m usually at the silhouette side on sundays. Just look for the short filipino boy with the orange ammo can who doesn’t look like he knows what he's doing , I would love some tips & advice from experienced shooters.

Thanks
