Greetings from Kapolei.  Long time shooter, (shot my first .357 at the ripe age of 11 when a friend of the family/childrens pastor -  :o who was a Port Authority policeman took me out shooting) - Dad owned a .357 revolver, skeet shooting on my Brother-in-Law's farm, dove hunting and qualifying on 9MM's in the service of Uncle Sam... soon to be first time firearm owner.  With a growing family and what appears to be our 2nd Amendment rights in jeopardy, I can no longer sit on the sidelines.  Happy to be a part of this group.

Aloha.

Hello all,
new member here.
My wife and I just moved back to Honolulu. Last time we lived here was 31 years ago. Big change.
Question: I just found out I needed to register my arms I brought in from out of state within 72 hours. Well that didn't happen. I have been here for 45 days.
Does anyone know if I go in now if there is going to be a fine or something?
I still have a out of state DL.
Thanks for your help

I think by the letter of the law you would be guilty of a petty misdemeanor  (§134-17) but maybe they will let it slide and not enforce it. Maybe someone else has had first hand experience in not registering within 72 hours? Below is the link to §134-3(a) (registration law) and below that is the link to §134-17 (penalty for non-compliance to §134-3(a)).

The other thought is how do they know when you shipped them depending on how you shipped them. If it wasn't via FFL, maybe you could just say they arrived at such a date that is within the 72 hours. Not saying you should do this, jus saying.

Heres a good thread to read through.  they cover a lot of good stuff.

Bass monkey, thank you, that was an interesting thread. I have a soft case for my AR, but only boxes for my handguns. Looks like I should by some cases for my other guns just to be sure.

I didn't register within the 72 hr. deadline. They don't ask for dates on when the firearms arrived in the state. Make sure you get in asap, and make sure you mention that they are out of state.
