When the PRESIDENT and COMMANDER IN CHIEF threatens to use F-15s and Nukes on US soil to quash any uprisings against a tyrannical government, maybe this scenario upon which the 2nd Amendment was based isn't farfetched. 2A is about defending the nation's people against a tyrannical government -- foreign or domestic. It's not about concealed carry, hunting or a militia.
Remember, the Revolutionary war was against a DOMESTIC government. American colonists were under British rule, so in fact, they were fighting their own government for their rights and freedoms. Most people arguing "we'd never have to fight our own government" like to pretend Britain was a foreign power attacking the colonies. Not even close. If we had to take up arms against the US federal government, it would be no different than the Revolution or the Civil War.
Those in power are terrified of those not in power having the means to stop an out of control government. If you think not joining the military keeps you from having to fight for your freedom, think again.
