Yeah, I had a very physical job when I was still working.  Still not the same as actual exercising but now that I'm retired, I am very concerned about my physical fitness.

I'm an old fut but I want to be as fit as possible.  My wife and I will soon be empty nesters and it will only be us too, just like how we met 43 years ago......

Anyway, I do some free weight lifting and I do an hour on the elliptical machine everyday.  I try to stretch my limbs daily and do pushups and sit ups.  I f*ckn hate sit ups......

Running is hard for me.  My knees are really fucked up.  Last time they were giving me a hard time I went to the Dr. and she said there hardly is any bone or cartilage where there should be, lol!

Funny though, the last time I saw a cane spider I ran just fine. :D

Anyway, just my paranoia but it seems when my wife and I are out and about we do look like the perfect couple a  f*ckn lowlife would want to mess with.  So I figure at least be fit enough to have a chance for my wife to call 911 and run to safety while I try to act like Bruce Lee.

And some firearms training would come in handy for HD and the very very slim chance in the future we would be able to CCW.

When it's real life, pain in the knee's wont matter.   Your spider example shows that.  But the knee giving out is another story.

The skill builders do require standing up for about 5 hours or so.  So if you can do that, then you will be fine. And like I posted, you can walk instead of running like how my wife does.

There is only one person who is being discussed as a "Hobbyist" in this thread.   Try and be clear of your statements to ensure there are no misunderstandings.

please show me where one person was specifically discussed as a "hobbyist"
i was answering ren

Definitely.  Give HDF a try. Good to get out and shoot.

If you need a carrot, do you shoot 9 mm?

Thanks!  I am interested in the HDF and also the HRA fun shoots they hold periodically.  I think I'll show up for the fun shoots one day, as the skill builders require equipment (holsters, mag holders, etc) that I don't have (yet).

Although I own 2 revolvers (SA .22 LR and a SW29) I consider them "range toys".  The SA.22 is only for plinking because it's role as a defensive handgun is unpractical.  The SW29 is just too f*ckn huge to even think of it as a carry weapon, lol!  Both are range toys and were bought for that purpose. They will serve as HD weapons if the need be though.

As far as 9mm?  I pulled the trigger so to speak a couple of weeks ago and bought a SIG P365.  I'm still in the waiting period of the PTA.  While I was at it I also bought a Walther P22, again for mostly a range toy and also for HD, along with the SIG.

So this old fut is just only now showing interest in skill building as far as defensive handgun.  I still need to acquire holster, mag holders, belt, etc and also work on my basic safe handling of auto pistols since I've never owned one before.  By the way, I bought the SIG TACPAC, it comes with 3 -12 rd. mags with finger extensions but blocked for 10 rds. and it also has a holster lots of people in the know say that is not that great.  But for me as a novice it should do ok, I think.

I see myself at the KHSC pistol side for the time being getting familiar with the SIG and Walther.

Does anyone know if the HRA or HDF fun shoots and skill builders allow people to just observe before participating?  I'd like to do that but don't want them to think I'm one of those weird f*cks.

Retirement is wonderful.  I can do what I want, when I want and sometimes, BUY what I want! ;D

Yes. Stop by and say hello.  Talk story with the folks.  I've participated with both orgs. If you linger at the back of the range, someone may (or even likely) come up to you and see if you need anything, interested in joining/participating, etc.

For gear, I would say get to know folks.  Most have extra gear.  I have tons of gear that I can let folks borrow, if they tell me ahead of time.  In fact, I have a whole HSGI setup that has been taking up space.  What belt size?  I don't have a holser for P365, but I have some HGSI belt slides that I almost never use that you should easily be able to find a holster and hangar/adapter for.  Anyways, something to think about.  Open offer.

Use the holster u got. Then after your first skill builder or class, debate if u want to change or not. Dont be like me and have 5 holsters. As long as not a serpa, iwb, or cross draw youre fine.

The open shoots for hdf allow watching. B4 u plan on coming msg me and ill see if im going. Can show u the ropes. My 1st time was intimidating. So having a friendly face there helps.  Bring the revolvers and shoot those.

Their skill builder might be a closed range.

I’ll do the same.
They’re good guys all around from what I’ve met.
Never been to the shoots though. Was always too early for me.
