I can't help but wonder whether this may be good for some made in America companies. Shortages in completed products may mean christmas shoppers will have fewer foreign options available. Hoping I sell a few knives during the christmas season!
Look up components of many “Made in USA” products…

I saw this episode. IIRC NYC.  She's an accountant.  She has no friends, but she invited a coworker she's closest to over for dinner with his gf.  She used thrown out food from a market.  The guys gf felt sick once she found out where the food came from.

I worked at a bank for some years. What I learned is the hot chicks have little to no money in their accounts.  The average looking ones who don't go clubbing/bar every weekend got 5 figures.  So I'll bet this pake lady got buu $ in her bank account.
I can’t stand people who are that cheap. Especially when she tries to scam people by deliberately presenting less then the price for an item, saying that is all the money she has, and expecting the vendor to accept that.  IF she ever eats at a restaurant, I would bet she does not tip, no matter how good the service.  Those kind of people should be tied naked 20 ft in front of the discharge chute of a wood chipper.

I remember 1 guy who wanted to bring manufacturing back to the US, and he was called a xenophobe/racist.

My New Balance shoes are made in Europe. The factories shut down last year. So only had old models and for double to triple the normal price via amazon.

Frankly I am not too worried, markets adapt, they always do. People can't find that coveted made in China toy? They will find another gift to buy. This might be a harder adaptation than usual but the market will still adapt. As long as I can get my toilet paper!

Even I could potentially be affected if some of my materials rely on imports though. Maybe this will be the wakeup we need to return some manufacturing back to the USA.

Yes markets adapt. Welcome to econ 100. The question is where will it go? Where will supply shift to?

Vietnam is a very likely alternative. A lot of companies that were having China manufacture their goods went to Vietnam.

FBN reported this morning thats the port in Savannah has stepped up offloading but also showed the port where it is completely full of containers and no where to put the new ones. But, they also said they started getting more and more of the stored containers offloaded and out of the port. And they are doing it faster than they can offload the ships as the stored container numbers are going down faster. If this report is true, then they obviously do not have a shortage of trucks and drivers.

They are now reporting that there are now more than 100 vessels anchored off shore at the Port of LA and Long Beach. A new record from last week with 97.

I have been seeing more and more made in Vietnam but I think I have noticed this more on clothing. I don't know about their technology and other manufacturing capabilities but I suspect they can probably respond relatively quickly for a number of things.

WH wants NG to be tasked to unload stuff. Great, now we will see a full time dentist, who's a weekend warrior try and figure out how to offload ships.

Don't they have to declare an emergency to get the NG activated for anything?

Since when is the NG to be used as free labor in an economic situation caused by the government?

That's not defending the nation.  That's protecting the administration.

It was mostly in jest.  But on a serious note, many of the NG folks work heavy machinery for a living.  At least many of the HIANG folks that I know.  They work on the bigger planes though.

NG units find the same types of billets (jobs) as the active units.  Communications-Computers, satellites, automotive mechanics, aircraft mechanics and loadmasters, pilots, navigators, air traffic controllers, security (SPs), and on and on.  They are trained to augment the active forces if they are ever required to deploy with them.

The heavy machinery operators are mostly Army and Navy.  The AF does have similar types of skills for forklifts and bulldozers, but for building levies and bridges, the SeaBees and Army Corps of Engineers are loaned out for a lot of that.

I was a Computer-Comms officer (Reservist on active duty -- ROTC grad), but I still had training and a military license for driving up to 2-ton trucks.

AF has Redhorse.  That said, no need to get into any intraservice discussions. . .   Save that for the AF vs Army vs Navy games. . .  8)

I used work quite a lot with SeaBees, but not in the last maybe 5+ years.  Like any job/profession, there are some good ones, and some well, challenged ones. . . I've learned to cut them some slack as many of them, that is their first full time "job".

I didn't want to start an interservice flame war.  Just pointing out that every job in the military is geared toward a specific need, and that most also have ancillary training to perform jobs not part of their primary positions.  I know every enlisted member of the Air Force is proficient with long guns and trained to perform guard duty.

I think using the NG to offload ships or drive truck is going to get the governments -- state and federal -- sued for stepping on Unions' toes.
