I see that there are 2 of these events coming up in Hawaii (one in Kona Big Island and one in Kaneohe Oahu).  Anyone ever been to one?  How are they?  Just curious because I might be able to fit one into my schedule.

I've been going to the one on Oahu at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base for the past four years now.

I think it's a great event.  From what I recall, it's been sold out the past 2-3 years.  I probably don't need to explain what it's about and who it benefits, if you're asking about it.  All that info is out there.

It usually goes pretty long because of the live auction after dinner.  That can go on for hours.  One year it finished after 11pm, it's pretty entertaining though!  Some interesting stuff in both the silent and live auctions.  I got a Front Sight 4-day course certificate a few years back.  They had a really cool iron fire-pit with an NRA cut out, and a toaster that imprinted NRA on your toast!  Classic!   Those are the more quirky items, they do have legit useful things, as well as guns, knives, etc.

There are other raffle type activities going on throughout the night where kids from various high school air rifle teams (that are volunteering for the dinner) can win air rifles.  Pretty awesome.

The buffet dinner is usually pretty delicious, too.

Check it out if you can!

Thanks for the info. I will be in Kona for the Cattleman's meeting which is the same time as the NRA deal.

I went with the National Guard Team. I won the Wall of Guns drawing for the Stoeger 12 gauge (1st choice), Kahr and Remington 1911A1s (2nd and 3rd choice) . I was really tempted to bid on the Camp Perry Cormemorative Springfield M1A1.

The president of the NRA (David Keene) showed up at the rifle range with Harvey (President of HRA) on Sunday. We had a bit of a discussion and then a few pics were taken then I left.

I seen him and his wife on Sunday at the range with Harvey.  It was cool meeting an active NRA president.  Got to take pics

Wife and I have been to two events so far... Great stuff!

Highly recommended... Take some spending money... Lots of guns, ammo, supplies, etc for donation raffles.
