Just called the Firearms unit to make sure they were going to be open today...girl that answered the phone said they were open, but not to come down "...because we're not taking any more people in line." I asked her to explain and she said there were over a hundred people in line and that she didn't think they (the firearms unit) were going to be able to see everyone so she was advising anyone that called to not come down.

Brutal....................

Actually I was just discussing this last night...so, as a legal gun owner, you try to register that new gun but cannot do so because the line is too long. Maybe you try a couple of times but each time run into a problem that results in you not being able to register your new gun within the time frame dictated by HRS 134. Are you now a criminal in possession of an unregistered firearm?

I've been physically in line when a Sgt on duty has come out and after people in line explain exactly that situation he's stated that he will waive the period.  Now what happens if you get pulled over on the way home from trying to register your firearm..........well that's another story altogether.

It's just crazy how things can change overnight.  One day you're waiting an hour, the next, 8.  Insane

i had a funny thought while working in the yard today
imagine the motorcade driving past hpd on beretania
BO tells michelle, malia, and sasha, "look at the occupy honolulu protestors"
one funny guy in the crowd lifts his rifle over his head and yells, "Wolverines"
then the secret service lets loose with the machine gun mounted in the suburban and a bunch of MP7s
i guess the thought isn't so funny anymore
never mind

can someone please tell  the presidental motorcade to detour and  drive by HPD HQ next week...so that he can see the "short"  line of LEGAL gun owners.   We than can thank him and congratulate him for being the Firearms Salesman of the Year!!!   :o again!!!  Hana Hou  All the local gun stores should give him a ammo can and say "Thanks for a wonderfull end of year record sales"!!! :shaka:

Got there at around 8:00 for my handgun permit, line was almost to elevators. Pau at 2:30. only 6.5 hours, not bad. Now I only have to do it two more times.

I'm waiting for some enterprising person to start offering stand-in-line services at HPD Firearms Registration for a nominal hourly fee!!

I think there is some of that already going on at DMV, or was for a while until more satelite City Hall sites were made available.
That being said... Want to wish all those on the back side of the bullet proof glass a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Stay strong. This too will pass. Thanks for being so patient. Maybe better sense will prevail and reinforcements will be sent. :shaka:

At the very least, they can have a pull ticket system so at least you don't have to wait in line.  Pull a number, come back later.  Miss your time, pull another ticket.  Cheap yet makes it more convenient for everyone.  Start making this suggestion to the firearms section, I'm sure they'll agree to it.

There are 490 signatures....and while that's pretty good, we should be able to get more. We probably will approach the City Council after the first of the year.....what we need is some local coverage of the lines at HPD.....

The system works.

Having to go in to register a firearm sucks but the system in place now works.

The problem is people are buying firearms at a higher rate than ever in history.

We've done this to ourselves.

The system works?
What exactly does it accomplish?
