Since Christmas Day is tomorrow, I was just thinking that  this is a good opportunity for someone to bring a small token of appreciation (like a small box of chocolates) to HPD in the name of 2aHawaii. Can you imagine if every other guy/gal in line did that?

Yeah I drove by, too. Lots of people all massed on the Ewa side of the HPD Lobby.

Did they reconfigured the line to run out the Firearm Registration office doors, and down the Ewa side of the HPD Lobby?

yup..
they were concerned that people driving by would grab a firearm from those standing in line...its now past the elevator

They worried someone driving by would grab a gun? What difference does it make if the line goes the opposite direction. I think someone would be more afraid with the line right in front of the building as opposed to off on the side where hpd can't see. I think they just want people out in the sun.

This move has nothing to do with what's best for people trying to buy guns.

Someone or a bunch of some bodies complained about "all those gun guys" blocking access to "our entrance"

That's the sole reason the line wraps into the sun and the rain.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

It's ridiculous that people who want to apply/pick up permits and register guns have to endure hours-long waits in line. One of the best proposals that has come out is to allow permitting and registrations at all Oahu police stations but this is just in the petition stage. In the spirit of McDonald's method of handling a busy drive-through, here are some ideas to help speed up the process:

- Permit Process: Have roving staff walk around with clipboards, blank registration forms and pens, and distribute them to applicants, who can complete the forms while in line and have them ready when they get to the window. Collect people's IDs and photocopy them, too. This would save processing time.

- Registration: Have roving staff collect permits and IDs and photocopy them in advance of the registrant coming to the window.

- Extended Business Hours: Expand opening and closing business hours (6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) because there's obvious demand for permit/registration services.

- Extra staff could be hired to do these additional duties. I'm sure there are employees who could use the extra money to cover their holiday expenses. Pay them overtime as the taxes collected from these extra gun sales could help pay their wages.

Just my 2 cents to help reduce the backlog. To me, it's a bit irresponsible to "do nothing" or "say too bad to those who have to wait in long lines," especially since permitting and registration are services being paid for by the taxpayers.

See what happenes when everyone decides to bash them (HPD firearms unit) on a open forum. Now you stand in line in the sun and rain and they work even slower. Good job idiots.

Just called the Firearms unit to make sure they were going to be open today...girl that answered the phone said they were open, but not to come down "...because we're not taking any more people in line." I asked her to explain and she said there were over a hundred people in line and that she didn't think they (the firearms unit) were going to be able to see everyone so she was advising anyone that called to not come down.

Thanks for checking. Does anyone know if they will temporarily waive the required time for registration after a gun purchase? I would hope so as HPD is having a tough time handling current requests?
