Agreed. It's obvious that both the taxpaying citizens who are trying to get permits/register their guns and the HPD officers who handle the permit/registration process are both frustrated with the increasing demand for services. The problem for the customers is we do not make HPD policies, thus we have no choice but to wait in outrageously long lines.
However, the HPD officers are in a better position to at least suggest changes because they manage the process. I'm sure they're dreading having to work five times faster and harder in an attempt to meet a demand that seemingly has no end in sight. I really hope suggestions are being discussed with the officers and management on how to better help not just the customers, but these officers themselves. How about temporarily assigning more staff to meet the demand and offer them overtime. I'm sure there are some officers who could use the extra funds to help with holiday and other expenses.
Don't we hear the "end long lines" slogan by a local supermarket chain? They attempt to solve this problem by opening another checkout stand that's worked by
additional staff. If you have more customers, then you need more employees to meet the demand.
I know some may be saying that HPD is already short staffed or why would HPD management want to make it easier for civilians to get guns anyway. But, it's obvious that keeping "business as usual" is unacceptable for both the staff and customers.
If I was the officer working behind the counter, I would want as much help as I could get.
thats a lot of busy work all day long, every day. and it never stops.
thats more busy work than working at 7-11
of course registering a firearm and buying a slurpee are 2 different things.
but just as a general working environment, If I were doing the work I would want to make it easier on myself at least.
but for now i wait in line just like everyone else.
what other choice do we have?
