They've been around for a long time, but only in the past year or so have it become more popular.  Even new ones that are tacticool are made.

I'm thinking because they can chamber revolver cartridges and be an optional firearm when carrying the same caliber in your revolver.  Duo punch with one cartridge.

I'm still looking for a Marlin 1894 SBL in .44 magnum to accompany my revolver.  But Marlin had availability and QC problems when they switched over to Remington and now Ruger took over.

And now Henry has some really tacticool levers in .44 magnum and they now included side gate loading which they never had before.  So now I'm looking at a Henry also, lol!

[snip]

That's what i think, too.

With ammo prices what they have been, and (lack of) availability, it made more sense to reduce the number of calibers needed for your firearms.

Having a carbine that shoots ,22LR, 357 Magnum or .44 Magnum makes it easier and more affordable to find and buy the caliber you needed for both a long gun and pistol/s. Compare that to the prices and scarcity of most rifle ammo the past few years.  No need to double up or triple up on your hoarding to acquire multiple calibers.

The smaller size rounds are also easier to stockpile in terms of weight and space needed for storage.

So, to me, it would be mostly an economic decision.

Another reason is that cycling a lever action is faster than a bolt action rifle.  That makes it more suitable for home defense than a bolt action.  Not as much fire power as a semi-auto AR, but it's still a good option -- similar to a pump shotgun in speed of cycling the action.

Those are the practical reasons, but i think nostalgia also factors in.  Few cowboy movies don't have a lever action rifle involved.  It's a part of American history, and a design that's still relevant for many purposes.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I would love a Marlin/Ruger 1894 SBL lever action in 44mag. if I could find one, I would buy it.  Hurry up, Ruger and make it!!!

I currently only own a Winchester 30-30.  It was my dad's.  I have long wanted a lever action .357 or .44.  For .357 or .44, like mentioned above, I initially wanted them for combination of ammo for both pistol and rifle.  That was back when I did backpacking/hiking in the PNW for fishing and camping.

I still want a lever action on .357 mag.  Mostly for nostalgia and "cool to have" factor.  Somewhat for practical use for defensive purposes as well.

I going race you, stang! :shaka:

But yeah, I'm waiting for Ruger to make it.  They already put out the 1895 SBL in 45-70.

Knowing Ruger's commitment to quality and workmanship I hope they offer a product that rivals the rifles made by Marlin in the old days.

I would get the 45-70, but I know my limitations and that caliber is too much for me.  I probably wouldn't shoot it much.  would make my shoulder sore

Yeah.  Me too.  .44 Mag in a carbine is perfect for that monster punch without too much recoil and wrist slap.  I also agree with others that this would be a pretty good home defense option.

It will put down those drug-fueled crazies in no time flat.

They're fun to shoot and nostalgic. I haven't paid attention to the recent popularity, but I'd like to say the action is pretty simple and can be compared to revolvers(as being said to be reliable guns).

Yeah, when the Marlin 1895 SBL in 45-70 showed up in the movie I bet a lot of people said "WTF is that??!!".

Now I think many people want one.  After searching on YT and such.

I can't place my finger on it but I love mine. It is lightweight, compact, maneuverable, sleek, and that lever action movement is just so.... satisfying.
I have a winchester 30-30 trapper model

One shooting buddy has a Marling L/A in .44.  It's a sweet shooter, but he went through at least one return and one had work.  This was when the Q/A issues with Marlin arose.  That stopped me from getting one back then.  I haven't heard about recent Marlin quality.  I had been looking into Henrys as well.  I would still love a Winchester L/A in .357 mag though.

Lots of hate on "tactical" lever actions.  I shot one that had an RDS and it was a sweet shooting rifle.
