MAHALO HPD
« on: March 18, 2023, 08:59:09 AM »
Just got a call informing me that my CCW paperwork was sent back down for a minor issue. I just wanted to give a big mahalo to HPD for working on our paperwork’s on a Saturday. I know they’re backed up but they are working on it. So just be patient and give them time. I have been waiting for a while like the rest of you but not once have I’ve bothered them to ask about my application status. But let me tell you they are doing their part to get everyone situated. So just let them do their thing and hopefully we all get our CCW soon. Have a blessed Aloha Saturday 2AFam!!

I’ve had a couple Sgts call be after hours to correct/verify things where I think some couple have just rejected the paperwork. One was on a Friday evening and another on a Saturday. While I think the process could be better, good to see some folks making effort to be helpful (where can).

I got the same phone call this morning. They just wanted to verify that I was ok with them putting "NA" in red ink in a couple boxes that didn't apply to me. I was surprised also they were working on a Saturday.

Was told I would be hearing from them very shortly. I'm very excited to only be well protected on these deadly sidewalks we got here in Oahu.

You’re joking right? They’ve been dragging their ass on this for months. How long does it take to look over a bunch 14day background checks an application and a notarized form. If you think it’s slow now, wait til next years new applications and renewals. The whole process with no time deadline is a joke.

I have no sympathy for the people who create the process and then use the amount of work involved as an excuse for delays.  It's not like the Chief isn't the guy who made all the CCW rules.

Famous case of Carol Browne in New Jersey who filed a Domestic Abuse TRO against her ex-boyfriend in March.  Browne filed the restraining order against her ex after abuses such as hitting her, smashing her face into her trucks dashboard, breaking her nose, splitting her face and strangling her.

She applied for a firearm license on April 21.  She was murdered by her ex on June 3.

You can find the specifics online.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Carol_Bowne

The individual HPD officers might not be the one's who created the rules, but they work for the man who did.  If they are taking a long time to process applications, the officers have a duty to let the Chief know and to find ways to shorten license approval times.  Cutting the Cops some slack is just accepting a bad situation that can be -- and should have been -- avoided.

A right delayed is a right denied.

If the Cops are working nights and weekends to make phone calls, you can bet it's not because they are trying to speed up the approvals.

It's called overtime and shift differential pay.

Come may 1st, ccw license will be useless. Hopefully scotus can hear our complaints, and over rule these ridiculous anti 2a bills being made up by majority of our hawaii lawmakers that seem to be supporting the criminals here.

Not sure on the hate.   HPD was very helpful for my ccw permit.  99% of the police are probably just trying to help.   Don't politicize everything.

In my case, it's not hate.

It's just a negative opinion based on Hawaii's unconstitutional laws and restrictions that are now being doubled-down on by the state to try and continue their gun control nonsense even after the SCOTUS ruled in general that the majority of these laws are illegal.

Compare Hawaii's processes to other states that actually support our constitutional rights.  The police should not be in the position of having to be "very helpful".

If you think opposing oppressive and unconstitutional laws, rules and processes is 'politicizing everything," then i guess I'm politicizing.

of course its politics bc chief is a political puppet
look how long its taking to process paperwork.  it truly does not take this long to check the paperwork and sign the permit.  you think it really takes 90 days to do so?

Some pro 2a states take about 90-120 days to process a CCW app.   I know NV has it in their law of 120 days.  But all the other states don't have permits to acquire. So HPD and HI shows their hand by requiring a PTA. So in 14 days I can buy a belt fed rifle, but cannot CCW a tiny handgun in the same time period.

This is why it's such a big deal here that HPD is taking more than 2 weeks to process any CCW.
