left side charging handle anyone?
http://www.coloradoshootingsports.com/aklightningbolt.html

Read a review about this option awhile ago...

I think the article's biggest gripes were:

1.  Access to the left-sided charging handle can be obstructed by the folding stock (who really fires an AK with the stock folded?!?);

2.  The left-sided charging handle is no bueno if you use an optic that mounts to the rail on the left side of the receiver (don't most people use irons, Ultimak, or TWS?!?); and

3.  The additional opening in the dust cover allows more crap to get into the receiver (didn't that vid show an AK chewing through a turkey sammich and keep on going?!?).

My thought is, if it works for you, use it!!  :shaka:

Meh...

I'm a lefty, I like the charging handle right where it is.

Just curious, bruddah KK.  Did you ever feel the need to install an ambi safety on your AK(s), or do you just make ready/make safe with your right hand?

I prefer to use my right hand to manipulate the safety lever.

There's also a company that makes a top cover with a fold out non reciprocating left side handle

I've always thought the AR was miles ahead in terms of ergonomics after purchasing and trying my first AK.  Then I watched some vids by operators of these com bloc weapons and realized it just takes practice.   I love the simplicity of the platform. The Ak is incredibly fun to shoot because as someone said on here, you see the mechanical bits working while you fire.

I think it's one of the greatest things to come out of a communist state that isn't laughable.  It's actually legendary.   :worship:

I'd love to try the fuller sight.  US palm grip, Ultimak gas tube and an aimpoint micro.

Never got my hands on an CR in time, would have liked to try out the lighter front end.

Maybe when this madness ends.

Got a target post for the front sight from tech-sights and I have to say it is a vast improvement. The front sight post no longer completely obscures the target at 100 yards. I think i'm going to order a krebs rear sight to see just how accurate the SLR can be with irons.

For accuracy, this is the rear sight I'd recommend.

K-Var makes it (I think)

They sell it on their site.

There's two versions, a 800 yard & a 1000 yard one.

Check RPK sight on eBay as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I was completely unaware of the adjustable rear/RPK sights.

No problem.

No more drifting a front sight.

Goodbye weird looking sight pusher.

Ya, I almost bought one. But after taking my bulgy to the range and realizing it was dead on from the factory I didn't. This is why I was considering a Krebs rear. Since I have the PRO on it the irons aren't of utmost importance but we'll see since they do cowitness. Anyone here have a Krebs on any of their AK's and like it?

^That sight does look pretty good. The stock front sight on my ak is all the way to one side. I hate having to use the sight pusher every time I want to adjust

I was thinking of getting this which almost doubles the sight radius:

I almost ordered the tech-sights set but I held back and just ordered the front post. The rear sight/cover combo looks awesome and has good reviews but I want to keep the original top cover. If I could have got an ab2 before the craziness I'd go tech sights all the way.

I like this product. It is easy to install and it does appear to be well made. The top cover is made of steel. I have not decided if the texas dog leg mount or the parabellum is a better product. Each has its strong points. The texas has a longer sight radius and it has a non-adjustable aperture sight that clamps to the rail. The parabellum has an open rear sight that is also not adjustable, but it does not take up rail space.

I am a firm believer in the side rail mounts made by the Russians and some of the other combloc nations. The side rail system however adds more weight and bulk than the texas and parabellum products. These products are good alternatives to the side rail systems.

Normally I would agree but with the new RS side rails the added weight is less than that of the Parabellum or TWS, at least with the front or rear biased models. The set up for my PRO is under 5 ounces without the optic. Alas it does had a slight amount of width to the rifle but it is less than most if not all side rails that have come before. Though if I had to choose an optic mount for a duty weapon kalinka would be at the top of my list
