Normally I would agree but with the new RS side rails the added weight is less than that of the Parabellum or TWS, at least with the front or rear biased models. The set up for my PRO is under 5 ounces without the optic. Alas it does had a slight amount of width to the rifle but it is less than most if not all side rails that have come before. Though if I had to choose an optic mount for a duty weapon kalinka would be at the top of my list

Have you got a picture of it?

AK-301 rail and AKM Aimpoint mount. Pretty amazing compared to some of the other rails I've seen and very light weight.

Here's a video RS just put up.

Thinking about trying out this grip with interchangeable straps:

Now that's something. Several color and grip options for a great price. If I didn't already love the USPalm I'd order this yesterday.

RVG or AFG?

The RVG did feel more comfortable after I moved it back a little, but I ended up leaving the AFG on

I've heard it's best to put it out as far as possible so it doesn't block your field of view. my red dot has 1/3 cowitness now

It's the most stable mounting point, without cluttering the rifle.

To also add to the most stable area to mount the red dot that far forward on the receiver that was already mentioned, there is also a mounting bracket that can be mounted to the side of the AK. Note that the AK needs to have that mounting bracket plate for that to be possible. That would allow the red dot OR optic to be mounted above the receiver cover of the AK. Hope that this helps answer your question.  :shaka:

I set mine up at the midway point of the gas block.

This allows for a perfect balance of focal point and peripheral vision, and also ensures that the loose tolerances of the ultimak rail doesn't fry my optic.

Then again, my primary arms micro died after 3 days of use, so I will need to pick something else up and see if it is a long term solution to keep the sight where it is.

Which model was that?  I've been thinking about getting one of the models that are similar to the Aimpoint micros for my Arsenal.

My AK has the same mount.  However, with the Arsenal SM-15, I find that it puts most optics pretty high.  Too high for a good cheek weld with the standard stock.  Would need more like a chin weld.  I have a milled AK, so not as many options for aftermarket stocks.  Been wanting to buy an inexpensive stamped AK so that I experiment more with stuff, particularly stocks.

It's the advanced micro dot;  hit or miss for most people. Mine could have just been the battery, but I was extremely disappointed and demanded a refund.

I just purchased a bushnell TRS-25 for half the price. Supposedly not the same quality as the ADS, but who cares; its half the price, and I'm not a warfighter.

That was the one I was going to get. I think it was in the $150-170ish range on Amazon.

One of my shooting buddies has one on his AR. I've shot it and it seemed decent. I'll have to see how it's holding up.

The Bushnell is a pretty good price though. I'll have to read up on it more.

WTF!!!!  I can't get this stupid slant brake off.  All the videos I've watched show them pretty much falling off on their own   I'm pushing in the detent button and I'm trying to turn clockwise(14L)  Anybody Locally work on AK's if I give up.

are you sure your bbl is 1x14mm Left hand threaded? Is there a weld or a pin besides the detent pin? Have you tried heat? What make and model rifle do you have? If you do get it off put some high temperature anti seize on the threads prior to installing a another brake.

Got it, damn that thing was tight.  Had to put the rifle in a Vise and crank the brake.  Thanks for all the moral support ::)

I put a Magpul pistol grip on mine, mostly to have a place to keep earplugs.  And changed out the rear sight to a GG&G peep.  Fragile optics?  No thanks!
