I just received an email from him (George) stating:

"Target Height: We are requesting that center of lowest target be 5’ from the ground."

That is very high . . .

I got the same email  from Marc Koga
if we do that, our target frame will be taller than the berm.    :geekdanc:

I thought that was typo in the email, but I guess not. My dad emailed to ask and Mr. LaRosa confirmed 5 feet.
Although the email that went out does say "requesting" and not requiring.

Just rifle range.
5’ from center of lowest target.

I wasn't sure from the notice whether the no metal targets rule is permanent or temporary?
I like my steel targets.

Are they going to revise the target dimensions on the KHSC website to accommodate the "request"?

Emailed George who said they are revising the rifle  target frame dimensions and will update the website when done. Also asked whether they replaced any of the rifle target frame pipe holders that were damaged and was told no.

5' high seems a bit odd, guess it's so the rounds go into the middle of the backstop.  I can see a couple feet high to avoid bullets striking the ground or pipes.

if you hit the target, the rounds will probably never make it to the backstop.  A free-hanging target should deflect downward, and the round should be all but vaporized upon impact with steel.

Most of what comes off the steel will be sprayed in front of the stand, not behind it.  I hung my targets between the legs of a brand new frame, and this was the result (hanging steel in front of the frame fixed it -- bullet particles sprayed in front of the legs causing almost no damage to the frame):

I assumed the 5' target height talk referred to paper targets, not steel targets.

Then why did you post that specific comment as a reply to my post?

you responded about current rules with a post about rounds contacting steel, which is no longer allowed in the current rules
i was just pointing out that it is no longer allowed...

Then why did you post that specific comment as a reply to my post?

The rule change is why I posted my comment -- since the discussion moved toward speculation as to the reasoning behind the change.  I was giving my personal experiences in case others have not yet tried mounting steel targets to wooden frames and why the rules make no sense (shouldn't have to spell that out to most people).

Your comment was redundant.

Woo hoo.  More 1X2 lumber to buy.......  And they neva fix da broken pipe holders in da ground?  Gee the city spent $400,000 doing improvements, you'd think they'd at least fix the broken pipes.  Feel sorry for the poor guy who gets that lane.

Ha ha  But they did paint the roof cause you know, safety, lead and all that......
