Was discussing planning for attending future shooting courses with a few friends recently and Ben, Xray, etc and this topic came up. I had been considering taking a course from Ben, Xray, Vision Fukus, Joel Park, etc, along with others like Point 1, JBS, etc. Anyways, the opinion of Ben as a good shooter and instructor, where he definitely will improve your shooting, but many can find super abrasive as well as petty. I had dealt with Ben a while back when I bought a bunch of stuff from his website. From magazines to holsters and he was always super cool. That was before his YT videos, IG, etc got popular.
From the convos that I've seen, Ben also seems to know what he knows. Yeah, I think he's open minded to folks that are within his circle. However, I've also seen where he lays down some harsh criticism based on feedback that folks that attend his classes had in other classes. Where what was conveyed wasn't accurate to what was being taught. Ben didn't take the time to understand, nor want to understand. That's his perogative, but in a way, that's his own version of echo chamber.
Overall, I like training with and taking classes from a variety of folks. More tools for the tool box. Especially like when instructors also have that mindset of take what I teach if it works for you, but be sure to give it a fair shake. Also where instructors are able to find a way to make you better, no matter if you're doing it "their way".
