Depending on how much they buying guns for, I might do one of two things or maybe both.

1. Go buy some pipe and threaded end caps to make some slamfire shotguns.  I have made two so far, but being a law abiding citizen, I disassembled them by removing the sliding pipe since ghost guns are illegal.

2. Go to where the buy back is taking place to see if there are any guns I would like to buy and offer more money than the buy back.

The last buy back was in like 1998 and about $22K was paid.  Funds were partially from the Hawaii Housing or something.

I'm sure HPD will have an amnesty for any unregistered guns.  But will HPD make up their own rules like how they do?

To get "crime" guns off the street, they have no choice but to offer "no questions asked."  The "seller" has to remain anonymous, or the next time there's a buy back, nobody will come if the gun is possibly stolen or part of a criminal case.  Amnesty would be a bad thing to offer, since it's possible the guilty party could be identified and tried independently of their showing up to sell a gun.

If the "buyers" don't guarantee anonymity, then they tip their hand -- all they want to do is take legally-owned guns away from law abiding owners.

From buy backs that I've seen across the nation, many are wooden stock type of guns. But I'm sure some good stuff will appear. 1 may want to wait on the side and offer the turner in a better deal.  Provided it's legally owned of course.

Thank you but what I meant was if the guns are destroyed by HPD, how do they go about doing it?  Do they have a special shredder or something?  And would members of the public be able to witness the destroying of the firearms?

I just don't want a firearm ending up in the hands of an HPD officer's 2nd cousin of a friends uncle's father-in laws hanai sister's son born out of wedlock from a gramma across the street.

I don't have a problem with buy backs as long as it's 100% voluntary.  There are probably thousands of guns people don't want in their homes and don't know what to do with.  Or unregistered guns people are afraid of bringing up.
 Some of these would end up in suicides or stolen in burglaries.  I'd rather have them sell the to stores, but it's their choice.

There is a Supreme Court ruling on that.
It is a violation of the 5th amendment to force you to admit to a crime.
Non-registration is a crime.  So if you were late in registration
FO HPD.
Don't bother ever, keep a lawyer on speed dial,  money for bail
and keep your guns.
