NRA blames Music, Video Games and movies for shooting

awesome.  its like they think this is still 1999 and this bullshit still flies.  God, he cant even name movies from this decade.  seriously?  Natural Born Killers?  do they even play that on tv?

so the NRA and the Gun Owners of America picked probably the two least likely issues to garner more support: video games, and arming teachers.

could they have played this any worse?  its like they WANT to lose this battle.

With as much time as the NRA had, I was hoping for something that was helpful to the cause... Facepalm  :wtf:

Parenting plays a big role,  but I was hoping the NRA would voice more concern for mental health care.  Just my .02

they did in their full speech.  i just highlighted this because i thought it was stupid. the speech as a whole was pretty good, but it could have been a lot better if they'd dropped this part.

Ya, they briefly disscused it, but they didn't go as far as I was hoping with it.  I watched the speech and agree that they should have stayed away from the whole TV/movie/games argument.

Deflection.  It's a great tactic, and they are doing what they should be.  Just because you don't buy it, doesn't mean some of those other idiots (like the ones holding the signs) don't believe it.   We are talking about the same people who went to the supreme court for trying to ban violent video games...

I'd rather see a ban of violent video games than the ban of our Rights to defend ourselves in the real world.

I blame guns because guns kill people. No wait, I blame people because people shoot guns which kill people. No wait, I blame mental disorders because mental disorders cause people to shoot guns which kill people. No wait, I blame people with mental disorders who play violent video games because violent video games have subliminal messages telling people with mental disorders to go out and buy guns and kill people. No wait, I blame the makers of violent video games for forcing people with mental disorders to go out and get guns to kill people. No wait, I blame computers for allowing people to make violent video games which cause people to go crazy and kill people. No wait, I blame Steve Jobs for making Apple and causing video game creators to make violent video games on Apple computers which force helpless people to become crazed murderers. No wait, I blame valence electrons for causing the flow of electricity and making it possible for computers to exist and video game makers to make violent video games which kill children. No wait, I blame ....aww fuck it...I give up.

IMHO the real culprit is all these mood altering drugs being prescribed to all our kids these days.  No discussion going on about that? ???

im sorry, i think the whole argument that music, movies and games were legitimate factors in violence got thrown out ages ago.  i dont think its going to be particularly effective in this bout.  its been a long time since we blamed Marilyn Manson and Doom for columbine, and GTA for kids stealing shit everywhere.  what's next, are we going to have Harry Potter book burnings?

i really think the nation as a whole has moved on from that, and bringing it up just marks the argument as out of touch.  it was a bad move, imo.

While I don't think violent video games are the driving factor behind gun violence, I think they have to be part of the conversation. Young people nowadays spend unhealthy amounts of time playing these types of games (i.e. CoD, MWx, etc.). To the point of having addictions, in some cases, and at surprisingly young ages. Some people live more in their augmented reality than their real lives, and I don't think that has a positive influence on their decision making process. Case and point, if video games have no effect on you psychologically, why does the military employ the use of Xbox controllers to operate their drones? "Hey soldier. Just drop those bombs on that target over there. Think of it like you're playing Modern Warfare!"

Then Hollywood steps in and portrays gun violence and killing as cool and hip. Yes, some people do take movies and television a bit more seriously than they should. They create unrealistic gun fighting scenes and getting shot never seems that bad. People dream of emulating that movie bad ass, taking Hollywood special effects and turning it into reality. How many accidents are caused by people trying to perform something they saw on tv?

Just because you are a logical human being who is fully capable of separating fact from fiction doesn't mean there aren't idiots who exist in this world who take television and movies a bit too seriously.  When their entire everyday realities are being replaced by augmented realities, someone is bound to get them mixed up. Factor in some sort of mental or psychological disorder, sub-par parenting who use television and video games as a way to babysit their kids and possibly a trigger point, such as a divorce or lack of fatherly role model and you have a recipe for anything to happen. Top it off with possible anti depressants and/or anti psychosis medication and you have trouble waiting to happen. Give that individual access to firearms, next thing you know you have a Connecticut tragedy on your hands.

As a computer tech i blame parents who let thier kids play those video violent games. I am one of them. Some children cant see reality. Also tv and movies that glorify all kinds of bad stuff yet we crave it. I have seen kids go from well behaved to monsters. Its sad. Even to some young adults.

Well, I can't either.

Have not been to a theater in 20 years, or watched anything remotely new on TV.

The part that irks me is anti-gun actors and actresses make tons of money with guns in thier movies or tv shows.

Yup they are doing what a lot of anti-firearms advocates are.  Throwing stuff out there and sooner or later all that people remember is the BS.

Everyones blaming vidoe games and movies.......

I'm 37 years of age and I've been brought up in the craziest generation....

Most action packed, violent movies were brought out in the 80's and 90's.....

We grew up with the whole "EXPENDABLE" movie cast!

We also had the highest number of gangs and gang violence........

We didn't walk up in the club with skinny jeans and shades while popping bottles of whatever the coolest shampaign is now.....

I raise my kids and lead my family the way they should go..... upbringing is key ;)
