Since everyone seems to be buying 30rd ar mags...
« on: December 24, 2012, 01:51:40 PM »
Where is everyone using them?  I only use them to capacity when I go to Military  establishments, otherwise I usually use the 10rd mags at kokohead since it's 5rds rule...

I've seen people using the 30rd standard capacity mags at Koko Head and Magnum.

haven't you been watching the news?
30rd mags are so that you can fire over 2 rounds per second and kill as many people as possible while reloading fewer times
:)

i mean, i don't know why anyone would buy 30rd mags
i don't own any and i certainly won't any once they are banned
because that would be illegal
and as responsible gun owners we all follow applicable gun laws

Ya, so they say... ;)
I was just wondering if there's a spot besides Magnum to load to capacity.

LOL!

Who said anything about using them? Only a few are buying to have just in case...most, if not all (that have bought cheap) are just short term "investing" and doubling-quadrupling their money.

Agreed. I have 3 pmags (2 unopened) for that reason. I use one 30rd pmag and one 10rd of unknown brand at Koko Head. I might get another 10rd mag and leave all my pmags at home but really have no need for more 30rd pmags other than to sell for a profit if I find some cheap ones and laugh at the fools panic buying.

I see the point being made.  Luckily, I had "stocked up" prior to elections and didn't run into the problem of finding ar mags.  I was hoping that someone might turn me on to another shooting range (even though I kinda know there's nothing else).  I like to do rapid firing/mag dumps once in a while(cuz ammo is expensive) and I'm just trying to find another place to go.  Magnums is just so expensive for the type of shooting I like to do, but it's convenient.  With everyone buying 30 rounders I was thinkin I can't be the only one in my predicament....right?

There is clearly a market for people or businesses to buy/hoard/sell items that will yield huge dividends down the road. That's what occurs and capitalism in the works...nothing wrong with forsight and making a few bucks along the way. I would imagine most collectors already have what they need. Most of the old timers learned their lesson from the first ban (speaking for myself). No collector in their right mind would own a unfired, NIB Colt AR-15 SP1 R6000 or AR-15A2 R6550, for example, without original mags and all the trimmings. The collector group has certain weapons that never see a range and other weapons they use regularly. What is good to see is many 2A members helping others in need out before posting on GB or other auctions, whether they're collectors or purely shooters.

Think of it like this. 30 round mags are like 4 wheel drive full size pick up trucks, everyone has one yet the vast majority never use the 4 wheel drive or use the truck for its designed purpose. Do you have a full size 4 wheel drive truck? Do you use it off road hauling its max weight capacity? Or like most Americans you only drive it on the weekends to do Costco runs? Having things just for the sake of having things, practical or not, is the American way! From one responsible gun owner to another, if I follow all the applicable laws and rules, and reasonablly safe guard these items, why not have them?

Yep, I'm pretty well set for mags too and have been for years. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer USGI mags...Guess I'm old school that way. But there's just something to be said for a mag that you can bend into shape, refinish, and rebuild over and over. Well at least until it cracks, then I toss'em.  However the way things seem to be going, it might be smarter and cheaper to hold on to those too and have them welded.

The only reason I went for some PMAG's last week was because my son is getting his first AR and for some guys who were on duty and couldn't make it. Sad that the profiteers ended up screwing over a kid and great guys who are serving this country.

If i already have the 30rd mags am i already grand fathered in? Or if they have a ban i will have to surrender them?
A new law may or may not have a grandfather clause, so there's no way of knowing. But either way, I really wouldn't worry...mags are not a serialized item so there is really no way to track them. If you need them, buy what you need. No sense stocking up at inflated prices at this point.

WTF are you reading? Can you cite your fucked up sources? Red Dawn doesn't count. Chinese strategy with the US isn't about invasion at all. Their airpower projection is limited to ONE functional aircraft carrier - and it was bought at a used aircraft lot - as a mechanic's special.
