What is the definition of a warning shot? Can't find it in any SOP or FM.
Through deductive reasoning, I infer that a warning shot is defined as:
one or more shots fired in the direction of, and in very close proximity to, an individual
in order to persuade, convince or otherwise coerce the individual into acting in a manner other
than that in which the individual has been acting. What's crazy about that inference (besides the obvious "missing on purpose" thing) is there's nothing the shooter left behind
to explain why he shot at Trump. Maybe he did and it's not been discovered and/or reported on yet. Or maybe he mailed
his explanation to the Trump campaign or the FBI -- just waiting on the mail to be delivered.
Do we just assume the warning given was to drop out of the race? How would we know? It's an assumption that the
shot was intentionally missed, and therefore so is the meaning behind the warning. In any event, for all we know, that shot was taken by a mentally unstable loner who was radicalized and brainwashed by the
Left in this country, including the Trump-hating media. When the news came out that Trump won his immunity case and that
the classified documents case was dismissed on Constitutional grounds, he took it upon himself to be a hero and "save" the
country from this person who's been vilified as Hitler, a dictator, a rapist, a racist, a misogynist, a threat to our democracy and
an existential threat to the nation.
We do know this person supported Democrat candidates with donations, and that he switched his party affiliation in all probablility
in order to try and rig the Republican Primary against Trump.
I think the latter explanation basically puts any warning shot theories to rest. Nobody with an ounce of sense would give Trump
a chance to go into an election as the victim of an attempted assassination. And the chances they will make good on their first
"warning" are much worse now that the security lapse have been identified. They'll be much more ready if there is another
incident like this.
