not sure if this guy owns any firearms but he does make a good point.

that's a great vid.  its true.

its just too easy for people to supply their own answers to difficult questions.  blame guns, blame, music, blame games, blame movies, blame the system...blah blah blah.  its too easy to take things at surface value, especially if its something you dont understand.

and i love this guy's rant at facebook warriors "showing support" by clicking "like" on a post.

that's a handful vs millions of soldiers.

war messes up people no matter the era.

first we have people saying video games desensitize you and make it easy to kill

now we're saying that they make you less mentally able to handle killing?

which is it?

the reason im making a deal of this is, because it smacks to me of the same scapegoating anti gun people use to push their agendas.

Agreed that war messes up people up no matter the era, it all depends on the person and what they do to cope with it and the type of support they "feel" or get.

As for your second comment I believe its both after talking to doctors at Tripler.  Again it all depends on the person.  For some people they are desensitized.  And then for others its very shocking when they see their first dead person first-hand, especially when they personally put that person down.  I have no idea how you can say this helps anti-gunners?  This has more to do with video games and movies if you ask me.  Look at our TV programs and movies now and compare it to 15 years ago and then go back another 10 years.  Way different than what we see now.  Guns have always been accessible.  Society changed.  Our acceptance of things changed.

My comments were broad and general.  During the television memorial of Sen. Inouye many vets talked about coming home from WWII.  Someone said that many from that generation probably experienced a form of PTSD after WWII, but back then there was no understanding of it and diagnosis for it.  But at that time too society itself was very different.  People's world views and the culture of US was very different than it is now.

it has nothing to do with "helping anti gunners" or anything.  its me saying that getting pissed about gun grabbers scapegoating guns as evil instead of holding the criminal accountable is, in my opinion, hypocritical if you're going to go and turn around and say that entertainment is to blame for people going crazy and/or committing violent crimes.  its the same thing, scapegoating an inanimate object.

if you look at movies in the 90's (10-15 years ago), are your really going to saw that movies like Saving Private Ryan, Boondock Saints, The Thin Red Line, Natural Born Killers, Die Hard, and half of Schwarzenegger's catalog were really all that less violent than today's movies, half of which are bloodless because PG-13 movies make far more money?  Platoon is any less violent than today's movies?

going back further, are the horror movies of the 70's and 80's really that much less than today's movies?

no, not really.

IMO I think that society has changed from generation to generation and what was is no longer and values and norms have changed. Generally, a Vietnam vet who can no longer cope will potentially end up out on the streets as a drug addict or drunk and that's how they cope or simply put a bullet to their head and end it. I can't recall earlier generations of combat veterans committing mass murders of innocent people, or even non military of earlier generations for the most part. I'm not convinced that heavy metal music, video games or some violent book is the culprit...seems more like a scapegoat. Now all those psych drugs they give people these days is another story....just look at the laundry list of side effects of those drugs. JMHO

I have worked first hand with individuals that are and/or have been medicated with "psych drugs"

They have told me of different atrocities that they have committed while under the influence of certain drugs that were designed to help the cope with everyday life.

The recurring theme of their stories was always the same.

The drugs made it almost impossible for them to differentiate the difference between their thoughts and their actions.

Often times they believed they were only thinking about or fascinating about hurting someone or themselves only to realize later that they had actually committed the actions that they believed was only a thought or fantasy.

The reality is that these drugs are a very real problem.

The multi billion dollar drug industry has pulled the wool over the eyes of the world and are reaping enormous profits at the expense of the lives of our sick, elderly, uneducated, educated, rich, poor and saddest of all children.

that's what im saying.

even then, blaming psych drugs is complicated.  can they cause violent outbursts?  yes, but they can also help a lot of people.  it might be better to go further and look not at the drugs, but the doctors who often irresponsibly prescribe them often for profit.  the side effects are well known, especially in young adults and adolescents who are overwhelmingly the perps in these cases, yet doctors keep prescribing them to minors.  i think we should look at the system beyond the drugs.

I think you hit it right on the head and the money involved is the driver of the whole mess.

I realize that Cracked is a humor site but it has a good write up about gaming addiction.

yeah, i've read that.  its too bad the article only relates everything to WoW though.

but MMO's have to do that, because they rely on subscriptions to make money.  if they lose their player base, they lose their job.
