Winter Break for HI Public Schools began officially on Monday the 23rd, but the last day of school was Friday the 20th..

OP started this thread on Dec 21.  What a coinkydink.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

It was kind of annoying a few days ago.
I found this cake on the basketball court when I took the dawg for a walk.

With Hawaii's high cost of living and housing costs that is near or at the top of the nation I find it simply hilarious that people here can buy these expensive fireworks living on a welfare budget.

So when people complain to me about getting "hard time" I just roll my eyes.

They talking to the wrong guy.  Because my wife and I made minimum wage and raised 3 girls and rented our house and bought used cars.  We scrimped and saved throughout the years and with perseverance and making the right choices, we are enjoying the simple yet financially free life today.

No tell me "no can."

Can.

How else you going pay for your fireworks, your 2024 new car, and your daily starbucks.

Mrs Barrels was checking in on a friend's dog in Kailua while they were away and couldn't get the poor thing out of it's kennel because it was so stressed.

It is Christmas Eve at 6:27 am now, and some a-holes are blowing off a bunch of bombs or rockets right now.

When I used to deliver for Meals on Wheels I was surprised at the amount of fireworks expended after NYE at certain public housing projects.

Your friend is mistaken.   Kawamoto did not rent out any of the 105 houses he owned at his peak.  He was my customer for 4 years and he didn't even want to rent a house to me.  I needed a house for almost a year to demolish my existing house in Kailua and build a new one.  Toward the end of his mayhem in Hawaii he let 5 families stay for free in houses he owned on Kahala Avenue.  He had me tear down all the walls and throw the debris into the swimming pool.  He wanted to depress the price of the neighborhood and buy the houses cheap.  I stopped working for him after my other Kahala customers complained to me about him.

He started buying in the 1980s and probably rented back then.  I worked for him when he started coming back to Hawaii after a long absence in 2004 to 2008.  In his "2nd Coming" he did not rent and did not renew leases that were expiring.  During that 2004 to 2008 time period when he was my customer,  I  have several hundred hours of direct face to face contact with him.  Once it was only him and me at a house for 20 hours over 2 days.  I was charging him $1 a minute for my time back then and he had no problem paying it.

So your friend is probably right after all prior to me working with Mr Kawamoto.  I stand corrected as far as his dealings prior to 2004.  Ok for real now,

This is ridiculous. Its Christmas Eve not NYE.
If God came down and offered us eternal life and peace for a fireworks-free night we would be liberal Democrats forever.

I'm going to take a walk to the park this morning with my Dawgs to see if the idiots were popping at the park. I talked with the security patrol guys and they try to chase the lolos out at around 10pm. The park is supposed to close at 10pm, but nobody is assigned to close the gate to the parking lot anymore.

Lauren Cheape Matsumoto is my representative for District 38.  I'm going to drop her a line and ask her what is being done to curb this insanity.

Since I moved to Puna 10 years ago, I heard fireworks for the first time last NYE.  It was off in the distance so wasn't loud and only one long string of firecrackers at midnight.   Nothing before or since then.  Now gunshots are another story.

Went to walk this morning and found broken corona bottle glass at the children's playground. But I did not see fireworks debris. It looks like most of the party trash was bagged up by the folks throwing the party. Not too bad, actually.
