We have a bigger problem than guns

People that shouldn't be driving are still driving and killing innocents...all the traffic tables in the world won't stop people
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/10/25/suspect-deadly-hawaii-island-crash-was-cited-just-3-days-prior/

When asked why Medeiros was still on the road despite his record, Mahuna said, “The judiciary can only do so much when it comes to traffic infractions. If he chooses to drive without a license or drive in a reckless manner, that’s his decision. It’s the wrong decision. It’s a tragic decision.”

The crash has renewed calls for safer driving on the highway to prevent further tragedies. Nobriga emphasized the dangers of the highway.

This guy killed a lady and  caused a lot of needless pain for so many people. He is going to cost ALL OF US a lot of money in some way. I have a great suggestion, but I'll just shut up now.

The purpose of the revolving door of justice is to allow conditions to deteriorate until the public demands totalitarian solutions.

Just wait. Soon they will come out and say stuff like “This can all be solved with digital ID scanners in our cars!”

Precisely correct!

When I was studying economics in college (back when it was still grounded in empirical observation, so yes I’m 200 years old…) I was stupefied by what I saw being advocated by the Dem party - virtually EVERYTHING they were aggressively pushing is what I had just learned mankind had already figured out was exactly WHAT NOT TO DO economically - centuries ago!

Being quite naive, it took me years back then to realize the truth of what you just said above.

They dedicatedly replicate this in every sphere of human endeavor.  It is unmistakable at this point.

if he used a gun there would be a million new bills next year but going back to the conversation:

Mahuna said, “The judiciary can only do so much when it comes to traffic infractions. If he chooses to drive without a license or drive in a reckless manner, that’s his decision. It’s the wrong decision. It’s a tragic decision.”

I was just going to point this part out.  Right here is the problem.  "They" know this is happening but they do nothing about it.  Oh, they will charge you $250 when you run a red light from the camera they installed at intersections.

After you pay them, they smile, say thank you for the money and let you go.

"Authorities said Medeiros overtook multiple vehicles before slamming head-on into the car carrying six people."

I doubt there's much value left in his vehicle after the head-on collision.

That doesn't come close to a fraction of what he should pay in restitution alone.  Then there's pain and suffering, criminal charges, ....

Indeed but I was getting at what could be done before they crash their car. When they get their license taken away and still drive then time to take away something else.

Forfeiture would only be part of a solution though, forfeiture wouldn't apply in all situations.

So, you're an automobile-control advocate?

Works for guns and drugs.  Ought to work for driving without a valid license, too.

God, his recklessness killed people.  Doesn't anyone except me think he should be in prison?

There is one almost every day.
The saddest one was the Mahelona girl in Nanakuli who was walking to work at 5am. It seems like she was a young, smart, well adjusted, hard working kid.

After Sara was killed in front of McKinley, I don't think the state passed anything of meaning to keep repeat offenders off the road.  I remember her mom being interviewed and she was upset.

All they did was install those pain in the ass speed bumps and install speed cameras that cause more traffic to an already congested city/area.

I have a friend who's an insurance claims adjsuter and before letting anyone borrow her car, she ask to see their license. She said on a few occassions, the person didn't have one. So she didn't let them borrow her car.
